They’re all over the web, all over the news, and if you’re lucky (and in the right season), all over your local woodlands. They’re mushrooms, the mysterious eruptions from an otherwise hidden world of life and death. When they emerge, they can delight us with beautiful colors, strange shapes, and curious aromas. Mushrooms: what are they, how do they live, why are they fascinating? Where can you find them and how do you know if they're safe to eat? This talk covers the basics of fungal life with insights on foraging for food and avoiding toxins, with a special emphasis on common mushrooms participants are likely to find in central Massachusetts, and is presented by  Jonathan Kranz, a MA Audubon Certified Field Naturalist and vice president of North America’s oldest mushroom organization, the Boston Mycological Club. Transgender YA and now Adult author Edward Underhill will be discussing his two newest books; The In Between Bookstore (Adult debut released in January 2025) and In Case You Read This (YA released in May 2025) with Teen Librarian Jennifir Huston of the Boyden Library in Foxborough. This program is hosted by the Boyden Library, Foxborough, and is brought to you in collaboration with a multitude of MA & NH libraries, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Public Library. About Edward: Edward Underhill grew up in the suburbs of Wisconsin, where he could not walk to anything, so he had to make up his own adventures. He studied music in college, spent several years living in very small apartments in New York, and currently resides in California with his partner and a talkative black cat. He is the author of the young adult novels Always the Almost and This Day Changes Everything. The In-Between Bookstore is his first book for adults.
