Lenox Library is pleased to present Immigration 101, a two-part series exploring immigration law in the United States, on June 17 and June 24, 2025.  Both sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m. The June 17 session, An Introduction to Understanding Immigration Law, will focus on: How and why people immigrate to the United States How did things get to where they are today andHow can we make a difference in our own community?The June 24 session, Immigration Policy Today, will focus on: What are some of the emerging legal issues that face the country How are Congress and the courts responding to these issues andHow are the American people reacting to the response?About our presenter: Frank Johnson is an attorney who retired from the practice of Immigration Law in 2017 and relocated to the Berkshires.  Frank had been employed by the former Immigration and Naturalization Service as an immigration officer in a variety of capacities (e.g., inspector, adjudicator, criminal investigator, head of the Naturalization Program for Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and trial attorney).  Several years later, he left government service to join a growing business immigration firm in Boston, from which he retired.  Along the way, he taught Immigration Law at Suffolk University Law School in Boston for ten years, and participated in the national pro bono Project to End Family Detention for eight years.  Frank is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.  He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and actively supports its pro bono arm, the American Immigration Council.  While Frank continues to do pro bono consultation work, he no longer does any client work.

High school students are invited to join Lenox Library for an exciting new program! Read for a Cause combines reading with making a difference in your community. Participants will meet to discuss what types of community issues (e.g., food insecurity, climate change, mental health, and child welfare) they would like to learn about, then read a book related to that topic. Books will be provided for free from the Library and available to keep! Participants then will have an opportunity to discuss the book as a group, meet with a local organization to learn more about their chosen topic, and work on a community service project. Our Book Discussion will occur June 25, 2025, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Snacks will be provided. We will be discussing climate change and the book Snowglobe by Soyoung Park translated by Joungmin Lee Comfort. Books will be available to pick up from the youth desk in June. As distinctive on the page as on the airwaves, his voice is indelibly associated with the demand for racial justice in the United States, a demand that continues to make him one of our most pressing and urgent contemporaries. Lenox Library is excited to offer a low key and judgement-free group for all families. Babies up to 15 months (actual or developmentally) and older siblings are welcome. Join us for songs and bounces followed by play and chatting, led by Lenox Library Youth Assistant Sara Jarvie, an early childhood development specialist. In addition, on the first Friday of every month, we will have a special baby foot or hand print craft! Completely cost and judgement free, we are happy to help you capture your little one’s foot or handprint with a seasonally themed picture. We know firsthand how fast they grow and how hard it can be to capture those milestones at home. We have the supplies and extra helping hands, you just have to bring the baby.
