Families with children starting Kindergarten this year, are invited to stop by the library for a self-guided, outdoor Story-walk, all about going off to Kindergarten! There will be many numbered stops along the way with pictures to look at, and pages to read from the book Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin. The Story-walk goes around the library grounds, and is open from 9am to 8pm starting Monday, August 11th, and running through Sunday, August 24, 2025. After families complete the Story-walk, they are  invited to stop in the Children's Room to receive their very own copy of a back to school book. (Please check out website for library hours.)  No registration required. Kindergarteners and their families are invited to join us on Tuesday, August 19 at 6pm, for a short play about the first day of kindergarten, performed by the Leominster High School Theatre Company. After the play, there will be a question and answer session for kindergarteners to help them with any first day concerns. After, families will visit three stations where kindergarteners can practice their fine motor skills, including practicing how to tie their shoes, how to pack a backpack, and necklace and bracelet making. No registration is required. Curious about debate, philosophy, or just like a good argument? Join Beck Worrell for a fun and welcoming introduction to Lincoln-Douglas–style debate—with a twist. You’ll learn how to build strong cases, think critically, and explore classic LD philosophers like Kant and Mill… then go a step further. Together in this session, we’ll look at the famous “trolley problem”—a moral dilemma where an individual chooses whether to pull a lever and save five lives at the cost of one. It’s a classic test of utilitarian logic, but we’ll flip it on its head by asking deeper questions: Who built the tracks? Who decides whose lives count? What if pulling the lever isn’t the only option? This primer on debate invites everyone to reimagine what makes a good argument, and why it matters today.
