Explore Marshfield on foot! New to town? Longtime resident? Looking for friends to walk with? Here is your opportunity to explore some of Marshfield’s gems. This series of FREE Summer walks is co-sponsored by the Recreation Trails Committee and the Ventress Memorial Library. The walks are designed to allow residents the opportunity to explore trails which are located in Marshfield. With over 25 trails in town, there is probably one located not far from where you live. Our community walks are led by RTC members and a variety of guest presenters.  The walks are limited to 12 participants, age 10 and older. Students age 10-17 are welcome with an adult. Participants will learn about the history of the property and will share their knowledge with others.  Hikers are encouraged to: Wear sturdy shoes  Dress for the weather, which includes hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, walking stick and bug spray  Bring their own water bottle, and a peanut-free snack  Some trails may not be suitable for all individuals. Hills, rocks, tree limbs, uneven ground and brush are all common trail features. We love dogs, but for the comfort of all please leave them home during these walks. While our walks vary in length, they may go up to two hours per walk. In the event of heavy rain or thunder, walks will be rescheduled for the listed rain date. The North and South River Watershed Association offers descriptions of Marshfield and Marshfield area trails at NSRWA.org. Get outdoors – Forest Trails – to see which trails may be a good match for you. Registration is required. Space is limited and a wait list will be created once a walk fills. Volunteer opportunities exist for individuals, organizations and or businesses who wish to help improve and promote our vast network of community trails.  Meet at the flag pole in the parking lot located at the base of Coast Guard Hill, 900 Ferry Street. This is another fun walk with a spectacular view from the top of Coast Guard Hill. Learn about the mansion (now a private residence) where the Coast Guard members lived, how they got to work and more!  Rain date: Friday, July 18 at 6:00 PM Questions? WINGMASTERS is a partnership of two people dedicated to increasing public understanding and appreciation of North American birds of prey. Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks are both licensed wildlife rehabilitators based in Massachusetts. Together they care for injured birds of prey at their private center in Leverett, Massachusetts. Most of the birds they rehabilitate can ultimately be released back into the wild, but in some cases the birds are left permanently handicapped. Julie and Jim are further licensed to provide a home for these nonreleasable raptors, and to use them for educational programs. Since 1994 WINGMASTERS has presented over 10,000 programs at schools, libraries and museums throughout New England. For the birds well-being and for the safety of the audience, our raptors are handled only by Julie and Jim, and are under our control at all times.
