Jigsaw Puzzle Tourney! For Adults, Teens, and Tweens As a wrap-up to our Millis Reads 2025 program on digital wellness, please join us for a jigsaw puzzle tournament! For Adults and Teens One of the downsides of too much screen time is social isolation and loss of attention to detail; sign up today to battle both and have some fun. Compete with other pro puzzlers to see which team can complete their puzzle the fastest!  Register with a team of up to 4 people  OR register individually and we will place you on a team. Teams will have from 11am-1pm to compete. The puzzles will be exactly the same design and have 300 pieces. Learn new skills in a supportive environment of peers and role models. Our Club will meet at the Millis Public Library on Wednesdays from 4:00 - 4:45 PM starting on October 2nd and follows the Millis Public Schools calendar. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a means to empower individuals in three facets: build confidence through spatial and situational awareness, expand comfort zones to break down barriers and claim our space, and most importantly build strong, supportive, inclusive communities for a sense of rootedness and belonging. Since this is a singular session and not a multi-session program the concepts are emphasized more so than techniques; a single seminar won't make each  student an expert in technique since that comes from repeated practice, but a single seminar can teach concepts that students can carry with them when they leave. Permission slips can be found at the circulation desk and must be returned by May 27, 2025 in order to participate. Please wear form fitting workout clothes and bring the following: a pair of socks, a sense of humor, an open mind, and a bottle of water. More about the instructor: Laura Adrien has trained in Brazilian jiu jitsu since 2018, and began teaching at Invictus Training Center (https://invictus-tc.com/) in Beverly in 2022 and teach adult basic & intermediate as well as women's only classes. She's also taught empowerment and self defense seminars for teens and adults in Lynn and Beverly. Laura competes in both local tournaments and international championships, and has won the Pan American Championship at Master Blue Belt and taken third place in the World No Gi Championship at Master Blue Belt in 2023. Laura stays active within the women's community in BJJ, and actively networks to build and strengthen relationships across gym affiliations through hosting and attending various events. Outside of the gym, Laura works full-time at Northeastern University as an administrator in their computer science college; tutors English language, culture, and communication with international students; and gardens when at home. In this creative writing workshop, we will explore how various artistic mediums explore similar ideas and the differences and similarities therein, then write our own pieces inside these mediums using what we’ve learned. The primary mediums we will look at are poetry, comics, and prose fiction.  This class is intended for ages 16 and up and writers of all experience levels. There is no homework or grades.
