He later enlisted in the Armed Forces and was stationed in the Philippine Islands where he endured the infamous Bataan Death March and spent 3 ½ years in Japanese prison camps. Upon his return, he became a founding member of the America Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, a national organization that served thousands of POW veterans.
