Abbey Koutnik: Through the Years as an Artist What does an artist with ADHD do? A little of lots of things! This solo exhibition explores some of the range of Abbey Koutnik’s work, including acrylics, watercolor. pen and ink, calligraphy and pottery. Beauty speaks to Abbey’s heart- the beauty in people, in landscapes, in flowers, in nature. Touched by it, Abbey’s art conveys a sense of beauty through the form, color, line, and shape in each piece. Additionally, she wants visitors to enjoy her art and let it speak to them such that they can take away some of the joy and beauty of life. Artist and teacher, Laura Shabott, has said of her work, “Abbey brings great skill and commitment to all of her artistic endeavours with her paintings, drawings. and clay sculpture. She is searching and striving for full self expression and that is evident in her compelling art.” Artist Reception: May 10th from 3:00 to 4:45 p.m.

Join us for a mouthwatering in-person cooking demonstration featuring ceviche made with freshly caught striped bass from the waters of Provincetown. This vibrant and flavorful dish will be prepared using the finest local ingredients, including fresh vegetables and tangy, zesty lime. During the demo, you’ll learn expert tips and techniques for crafting the perfect ceviche—from handling raw fish to balancing acidity and seasoning for maximum flavor. The presenter will also share insights into sustainable fishing practices and the importance of supporting local fisheries. Attendees will have the chance to sample this light, refreshing dish—ideal for warm-weather dining—and take home new culinary skills and inspiration for their own kitchens. Whether you’re a seafood lover, home cook, or simply curious about coastal cuisine, this event is not to be missed! OUR PRESENTERS, Charlie and Sue Souza, grew up in Provincetown and graduated from the local school system in 1962 and 1964, respectively. An avid outdoorsman, he has hunted across the U.S. and Canada with firearms, muzzleloaders, and bow and arrow. He and Sue also shared a love of fishing, with their most memorable catch being a 726-pound bluefin tuna—Sue at the helm and him on the rod, just like on Wicked Tuna. He also loved spending time with his two sons during their youth and high school hockey years, which brought great memories and lifelong friendships. Today, he stays involved with the Provincetown Portuguese Festival and the Blessing of the Fleet team. Charlie and Sue love to cook with fresh ingredients and enjoy spending as much time on the Outer Cape during the summer and fall months. Women At Sea relates the experiences of being the only woman aboard a sailing vessel embarking on the China Trade in the late 1800s.  Frances Carleton Brastow Amesbury captured these adventures through her five line a day journal entries and her own photography.  When not at sea, she wrote of her life in the seafaring town of Rockport Maine.  The types of vessels she and her husband Captain Stanley Amesbury sailed on, what life aboard those months at sea were like, and the various places they made passage to are all documented in her diaries and photographs. Frances is the great aunt of Barbara Brastow Semple, our presenter. Through Barbara’s reading of her great aunt’s 15 years of journals, as well as several books and diaries by other women of that era, she has put together a travelogue highlighting women’s voyages at sea, with an emphasis on Frances Amesbury’s experiences sailing the high seas around the world. Barbara is a South Chatham resident and researcher and docent at the Atwood Museum.  She also sings with the Cape-wide Chatham Chorale and its Chamber Singers. Barbara  spent most of her career before retirement as a children’s librarian at public school, public library and private school in New Hampshire.  After living for 38 years in New Hampshire,  Barbara and her husband Paul retired to South Chatham 13 years ago.  Having grown up in Fairfield Connecticut, three blocks from Long Island Sound, sailing boats, and having spent summers in Chatham for 55 years, moving to South Chatham was like coming home. “Women At Sea” recounts Frances Amesbury’s 1800s China Trade voyages as the only woman aboard. Her journal and photos detail life at sea with Captain Stanley, their vessels, and destinations. When ashore, she chronicled Rockport, Maine. Presenter Barbara Brastow Semple, Frances’s great-niece, shares these 15 years of adventures, alongside other women’s sea journeys, emphasizing Frances’s global sailing experiences. Barbara Brastow Semple presents her great aunt Frances Amesbury’s 15 years of journals, alongside other women’s writings, highlighting their sea voyages. A South Chatham resident, researcher, and Atwood Museum docent, Barbara brings Frances’s global sailing experiences to life.
