Usher in springtime with the Norwood Evening Garden Club's 20th annual Art in Bloom! Art in Bloom is a community event that displays artwork generated by Norwood and Walpole High School students coupled with interpretative floral designs composed by members of the Norwood Evening Garden Club. Twenty pieces of artwork will be displayed in the Library  on Saturday, March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday March 22 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend to support the student artists. A member of The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, New England Garden Clubs, and National Garden Clubs, Inc., members of the Norwood Evening Garden Club have been providing education and public beautification in Norwood and its surrounding communities since 1996. Join us this Winter for PVC Play and Learn, a CFCE caregiver-and-child playgroup held at the Poirier Village Center for children ages 2-5. This free program offers a wonderful introduction to a school-like setting through play, socialization, and teacher-led activities. Children will have the chance to make friends, explore hands-on learning experiences, and participate in a fun and welcoming circle time. Space is limited so apply today to reserve your spot! This program will take place every Monday from January 5th through April 27th, 2026. Due to high demand, we kindly ask that you commit to attending all or most scheduled weeks of the session. The CFCE Program Coordinator will review all applications and notify families by Friday, December 19, 2025, if their child has been accepted into this playgroup. The Morrill Memorial Library is honored to welcome author Ieva Jusionyte to talk about her recent book, Exit Wounds: How America's Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border on Tuesday, March 24 starting at 7:00pm in the Simoni Room. Firearms play a double role in society: they are instruments of protection as well as sources of threat. Ieva Jusionyte's new book, Exit Wounds: How America's Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border (2024), takes a narrative approach to present findings from a multi-sited ethnographic study on the impact of American firearms in Mexico. The book follows the journey of the gun through circuits of exchange--both licit and illicit--from retail shops and gun shows in Arizona and Texas, to the hands of violence workers, both licensed and criminalized, in Mexico, to gun buyback programs and public art installations. By tracing firearms across borders and contexts--their shifting cultural and economic value, discrepancies in legality and legitimacy, and their movement across civilian-military and state-crime divides--Jusionyte illuminates how legal regimes shape the production of violence. Braiding together the stories of people who live and work with guns on both sides of the border and both sides of the law, the book shows how U.S. guns harm not just individual people, but also the health and functioning of Mexico's political and social systems. During tonight's program, Jusionyte will read selections from her book and speak about the process of researching and writing, then offer a Q&A. Born and raised in Lithuania, Jusionyte earned her B.A. degree in political science from Vilnius University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology from Brandeis University. Before coming to Brown, she was John L. Loeb Associate Professor of Social Sciences at Harvard University. Jusionyte studies borders, law, and violence, and is the author of three books; her newest book, Exit Wounds: How America's Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border, won the Juan E. Méndez Book Award for Human Rights in Latin America, PROSE Award for Excellence in Social Sciences and R.R Hawkins Award from the Association of American Publishers, and Nonfiction Honors in the Massachusetts Book Awards. In addition to research articles published in flagship scholarly journals, Jusionyte's writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Review of Books, The Boston Globe, The Guardian, and Rolling Stone, and she's been the featured guest on CNN's GPS, ABC News Live, and multiple NPR shows. Apart from her scholarly pursuits, Jusionyte is a trained EMT, paramedic, and wildland firefighter, and she spent five years volunteering in fire and rescue departments in Massachusetts, Florida, and Arizona. Morrill Memorial Library is excited to partner with Norwood-based Lifeworks Inc to bring a series of art classes called Sensory-friendly Art Classes for Adults to the library. The classes will be held weekly on Fridays from 10:30 am to 11:45 am in the Simoni Room. Join the art instructor Stephanie Enloe for Sensory-friendly Art Classes for Adults, a program specially designed for adults with different levels of cognitive abilities. Each week, Ms. Stephanie will guide our participants to create one-of-a-kind art projects, often utilizing recycled/repurposed materials and items found in nature.  Ms. Stephanie says, "I am very excited to be partnering with Lifeworks and the Morrill Memorial Library for this special program and look forward to the friendships, laughs and smiles that will happen along the way." Our teen librarian, Miss Dina, will be on site to assist teens who might need assistance with crafting or using the library equipment. Start your Spring on a high note with the Morrill Memorial Library's Spring Musical Sunday's Concert Series. All concerts in this series will start at 3:00 pm and are funded by the Library Endowment Fund. The first concert in our series will be a returning favorite, Trio Spirito, performing "A Program of Romanticism & Fiery Fury," featuring Brahms B Major Trio and Shostakovich Trio No. 2. Trio Spirito was created when three faculty members from the New School of Music in Cambridge joined forces and talents. The trio has performed widely in the greater Boston area for the better part of a decade with an extensive repertoire of classical music. Loren Pearson, violinist, spent ten years living in Germany while studying, traveling, and performing in orchestras throughout Europe. Dr. Mary Jane Rupert, acclaimed concert pianist and harpist, tours nationally and internationally, and currently teaches and performs in the Boston area. Cellist Pamela Ambrose has also toured throughout Europe as well as Russia, has a large following as a cello instructor, and can be heard on a recent recording, Poetic Reflections. Join us this Winter for PVC Play and Learn, a CFCE caregiver-and-child playgroup held at the Poirier Village Center for children ages 2-5. This free program offers a wonderful introduction to a school-like setting through play, socialization, and teacher-led activities. Children will have the chance to make friends, explore hands-on learning experiences, and participate in a fun and welcoming circle time. Space is limited so apply today to reserve your spot! This program will take place every Monday from January 5th through April 27th, 2026. Due to high demand, we kindly ask that you commit to attending all or most scheduled weeks of the session.
