A presentation by Marsha WinsrygDirector, African Artists Community Development ProjectHope lives right here on the Vineyard.Over the past 25 years, local resident Marsha Winsryg has worked with a community of children with disabilities, their families, and their neighbors in Zambia. Through her nonprofit, the AACDP, she’s raised funds for the mothers and grandmothers of these disabled children to purchase farmland. Today, they’re harvesting enough to feed their families and sell at market.While the US government has cut $8 billion in aid to Africa, Marsha will share how a one- woman nonprofit has transformed lives. In a time of relentless bad news, she has a story worth hearing—one of resilience, dignity, and change.

Join us Wednesday mornings for our weekly tap dance group! Professional instruction provided most mornings.  Experience recommended, and a limited number of tap shoes will be provided (size dependent).  Starting in June, the class will be reviewing and learning the Shim Sham Shimmy and choreography to perform at the Built on Stilts Festival in Oak Bluffs (first weekends in August). New tappers with experience are welcome to come join class, with the understanding that this choreography is what will be reviewed each week.This class is generously funded by the Library Friends of Oak Bluffs.

Join Oak Bluffs Public Library and the Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group at the Hughes Hatchery (the former state lobster hatchery at the end of Shirley Ave in Oak Bluffs) for shoreside netting and a shellfish hatchery tour! Scientists will be on hand to help identify marine life and discuss the importance of bivalve shellfish for coastal ecology and local foodways. Nets and buckets will be provided, participants should wear water shoes and be prepared to get wet!  Parents are responsible for children at all times, especially around open water on the beach.  Due to limited parking at the hatchery, families who are driving should register by emailing [email protected] or calling the library at 508-693-9433.
