If any of these sound like you, try joining our graphic novel book club!We'll tackle everything from vintage classics in a new layout (titles like The Odyssey, Pride & Predjudice, Slaughterhouse Five) to biographies (titles like Persepolis, Maus, Fun Home), to sci-fi/fantasy favorites (titles like Sandman, Nimona, SAGA). Copies of the book will be available for pickup a month ahead of time at the main branch; simply ask the Circulation desk for the graphic novel club book. On Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 PM, we welcome chess players of all levels who would like to join the Plymouth Public Library Chess Club to join us at the Main Library. The program is open to adults and students. Chess sets are provided, although please feel free to bring your own chess set if you have one. Space will be reserved for play in the Nook Road study room areas. (Please check with the Reference Desk if you need directions).We are grateful for the guidance which will be provided by Bill Petrillo, an experienced chess instructor, who has taught and led chess educational programs around the country for the USA Chess Federation, and also Jim Pritchard, who has been volunteering his expertise to educate people on chess – the royal game.

We are lucky to live in an area so steeped in history! This book club will celebrate that history by exploring the wealth of books about the South Shore. We will meet quarterly on the first Tuesday evening of March, June, September and December at 6:30 pm to discuss a book selection. For the June meeting we will be reading Big Bucks by Ernest Tidyman. Not a shot was fired, the loot was never recovered and, although three people were eventually indicted, no one was convicted of the ingenious 1962 Plymouth robbery of a post office van (used by the feds instead of an armored car to save money) heading up Route 3 from Cape Cod to Boston, packed with $1.5 million in bank deposits from a big summer weekend. Books will be available to check out at the circulation desk of the Main Library four weeks prior to the meeting date.
