The Summer Sweat Series at the Thomas Crane Public Library invites local trainers for FREE hour-long workout sessions on the Olmsted Lawn every 2nd and 4th Saturdays all Summer! Today, we welcome Abby from the YMCA! Registration is not required, but encouraged! Abby is a certified spin cycle instructor at the South Shore YMCA as well as a NASM certified personal trainer. She is a student at the University of Tampa and is so happy to be home for the summer and to continue her passion for fitness!  This class will be 45 minutes of a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) style class. We will do lots of stretching and then prepare yourself to sweat, push your limits, and feel empowered as we dive into short bursts of upper and lower body movements, core work, and some cardio to top it all off! Come ready to move, challenge yourself, and leave stronger than you came in! Join us for a special Walk and Talk outing on Thursday, July 17th! Our group will walk from the library to the Old Town Hall Museum. As part of Quincy’s year-long celebration of the City’s 400th Anniversary, the museum currently has over 50 large-scale historic images on display that will take visitors back to the City's 300-year-celebrations in 1925. Join us for this literal walk down memory lane!  After visiting the museum, walkers are welcome to join us on the Olmstead Lawn for watermelon and cold drinks. (Post-walk refreshments will be in the Atrium in the case of rainy weather.) Meet in front of the library (on Washington Street) at 10:00 AM. The group leaves the library at 10:15 so be sure to arrive by then! More about our weekly Walk and Talk program Led by 2 volunteer teachers, the walks start at the Quincy Library and follow different routes around Quincy Center (a maximum distance of 2 miles, walked at a slow pace). The walks are a great opportunity for English Language Learners to meet new people, enjoy casual conversation and learn about the many interesting places in Quincy Center! Longtime Quincy community members who are interested in meeting people from other cultures are very welcome to join, as well. Other information: This is a drop-in event. Registration is not required. DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) attorneys will be on-site at the Quincy Public Library to talk with people who have experienced abuse by an intimate partner and have legal questions about divorce, custody, child support, restraining orders, immigration or other related legal issues. DOVE attorneys will be able to provide general legal information, answer questions, and help with referrals for other services like counseling and safety planning. We can also answer questions about our services for those who have friends or family members who might be facing domestic violence. We can offer telephone interpretation for most languages. All of DOVE’s services are free and completely confidential. DOVE is a non-profit organization that provides supportive services to domestic violence survivors and their families, including legal advice and advocacy, one-on-one counseling, safety planning, support groups, education, and emergency shelter. DOVE is located in Quincy, and serves survivors across Norfolk County. Join us on Tuesday July 22 at 10:00 for a concert especially for children ages 0-5 by Little Groove. In this fun and interactive 40-minute concert, children ages 0-5 and their caregivers will move and sing along with a musician from Little Groove. Children use real instruments such as drums, shakers, and tambourines, giving them a hands-on experience and fostering a love for music. Space is limited and the doors will be closed when the room is full. Level up your character by learning how to craft with foam!  Professional costume and prop maker Eldritch Arts will give a short demo on how to get started with foamsmithing!  This workshop will show you basic techniques to use with foam that will allow you to create a wide variety of costume accessories.  We will start by making elf ears, animal ears, masquerade masks, and goblin masks.  The patterns and materials will be provided, you just bring the creativity!
