Join Eileen Carlotto, long-time meditator as she discusses the extraordinary effect of meditation to reduce stress-related responses, improve concentration, and enhance clarity of thought and mental equilibrium. In this one hour program, you will experience two meditations with simple instructions, followed by discussion and time for Q&A. Led by Eileen Carlotto,  a retired middle-school art teacher, author, and illustrator from Gloucester. She has written, Through the Stars, an illustrated book for young children and is illustrating stories that have become part of a series of mystic stories for children.  With 40 years meditation experience to draw on, Eileen offers workshops on various aspects of meditation and spirituality. We express ourselves in many ways, such as with the way we style our hair, the clothes we wear, and with the words we speak. But when we center ourselves on how the surface presents, we can miss valuable self-information that is literally available deep within our fingertips! Given a safe space, our bodies and minds want to tell us more, and one way to aid that translation is to let it come out in visual form. For some, art can bring up performance anxiety or 'not good enough narratives', so for the sake of access, let's call it exploratory mark-making, where there is no wrong way to create. In this workshop, Katie will set up a safe space to explore how creating visual information can lead to better knowing our deeper selves. About Katie Cahill, LMHC, ATR: Katie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Art Therapist.  In her therapy practice, she utilizes skills-based (CBT, DBT, mindfulness), process-oriented, and relational approaches. Gardening For Biodiversity With Native Plants: Providing habitat for pollinators, birds and other essential wildlife In this talk, Amy will focus on the current biodiversity crisis; the evolutionary history among native plants, insects, birds and fungi, and how these interdependent relationships among diverse species are necessary for their survival. She will show how growing native plants and using ecological landscape practices can simultaneously reverse biodiversity loss, increase resilience in our landscapes, and slow climate change - all while creating a beautiful garden! Amy Meltzer is co-chair of the steering committee of the Mass Pollinator Network, is an active member of Grow Native Massachusetts, and is on the Research Team of Elders Climate Action.
