Get ready to listen, cut, mix, and create! Celebrate Black History by celebrating Black voices! This workshop offers an in-depth and joyful jump into social justice through the lens of music and poetry. We’ll explore themes of identity, justice, and community in age-appropriate ways, celebrating the voices of Black artists and the power of kids’ creativity. We’ll listen to powerful songs by Black artists—songs about standing up, speaking out, and loving who you are. We’ll read the lyrics like poems and then use scissors, markers, and our imaginations to turn those words into our own poem collages. We’ll learn how music can tell stories, share truth, and spark change—and we’ll add our voices to that legacy through art and words.
