Trained Maker machine appointments open two weeks in advance. Training occurs during your first appointment. The length of the appointment is 2 hours, please plan accordingly. Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the fall. All Makers times are available to users who have a valid CW MARS library card, attended a Makerspace Orientation, agreed to the Makerspace Policy, and signed the Waiver, Release of Claims, and Hold Harmless Agreement. Users 13-16 may use tools designated as "All Makers" under the supervision of a parent or guardian. All Makers tools are designated into zones, including general craft, sewing, and XY cutter (silhouette). A full list of All Makers tools can be accessed in this document. The SPL Learning Lab Makerspace provides access to tools and machines. Users must bring their own materials. Per the Makerspace Policy, some materials are excluded from the Makerspace. See the Policy for details. To use the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace during All Makers times, users who have completed the Makerspace Orientation must sign-in at the reference desk on the 2nd floor of the library. All Makers times equipment can include the Silhouette cutter, the sewing machine, the iron/ironing board, the paper cutter, and general crafting tools. Once the orientation is complete, users will have access to the Learning Lab's All Makers hours, which are listed on the Makerspace website. For more information about the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace visit the Makerspace website. All Makers times are for experienced users only. Users must be capable of handling equipment in a safe and responsible manner. The All Makers orientation provides minimal instruction or training for the tools in the space. Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem solving! Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar, Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student's critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans. This class is led by Aaron Z as part of our Teens Teach program. This class will meet on Thursdays throughout the fall. Beyond Death, Medical Facts, and Meditation Since the 1980s when near death experiences became part of the public consciousness, they have held endless attraction for people. Why do they resonate so powerfully within us? Join Dr. Matthew Raider, a physician specializing in geriatrics to hear the latest medical research and discover a simple, natural way to connect with the inner light talked about by those whoâve experienced a NDE. Through a simple time-honored method of meditation, you too can explore those realms of peace within you. Dr Raider draws parallels between near-death experiences and those had by people who meditated throughout the ages, coming from all backgrounds, in all countries and all faith and traditions. He then gives the audience an opportunity to learn and practice a simple meditation technique that can enable them to experience the peace and the Light that people who have had NDEs talk about. Brief Bio Dr. Matthew Raider Matthew Raider received his M.D. degree with honors from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1979. He had a clinical practice for 42 years during which time he was the medical director of several health care facilities in central CT. Dr. Raider has been active in teaching geriatric medicine and has helped coordinate the geriatrics curriculum for medical residents at Middlesex Hospital in CT. He still is actively involved in teaching residents, medical students and nurse practitioners. Dr. Raider has had a long interest in meditation going back over 50 years. He is also a contributing author to âMeditation as Medication for the Soulâ by Rajinder Singh. All Makers times are available to users who have a valid CWMars library card, attended a Makerspace Orientation, agreed to the Makerspace Policy, and signed the Waiver, Release of Claims, and Hold Harmless Agreement.  Users 13-16 may use tools designated as "All Makers" under the supervision of a parent or guardian. All Makers tools are designated into zones, including general craft, sewing, and XY cutter (silhouette). A full list of All Makers tools can be accessed in this document. The SPL Learning Lab Makerspace provides access to tools and machines. Users must bring their own materials. Per the Makerspace Policy, some materials are excluded from the Makerspace. See the Policy for details. To use the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace during All Makers times, users who have completed the Makerspace Orientation must sign-in at the reference desk on the 2nd floor of the library. Usage of Makerspace tools during ALl Makers times is on a first come, first serve basis.
