Training occurs during your first appointment. The length of the appointment is 2 hours, please plan accordingly. The Shrewsbury Public Library does not provide supplies for your project, you must bring your own. Arts & culture are integral in our well-being. How is creativity interconnected with health? How does arts & cultural expression benefit those of us learning a new language, while adapting to a new culture & country? How can engaging in creative activities benefit our globally diverse communities? We will explore the many multi-faceted ways that our health is affected through arts & cultural experiences, with a special focus for ESL learners & newcomers to the USA. Prevention of disease & promotion of wellness will be our focus, as we explore impacts of creativity on health.  What can we do to advance arts, culture & well-being? Global, as well as local, efforts promoting awareness & creating opportunities for integrating arts, culture & well-being, will be explored.  There will be time for answering questions & sharing ideas on ways we could incorporate creativity in our individual lives, along with our global communities. Community resources & events, as well as general information on arts, culture & well-being will be provided. Join us to learn more about the important impacts of arts & culture on our well-being. Sherry Ruff, MPH is a public health professional with expertise in: health education, health promotion & Spanish. Specialization: multicultural, multilingual & vulnerable populations. Solid knowledge of social determinants health, health literacy, inter-sectoral collaboration, community organizing. Developed health education programs statewide. Extensive experience working in diverse cultural contexts. In a world of overwhelming digital content and social media apps that contort ideas and imagination into bite-size nuggets that are rarely insightful and never private, journaling is a creative and therapeutic hobby that allows for deep expression and rewarding escape. In this 90-minute, single-session workshop, local author Jason Rubin will inspire attendees to express themselves in writing using this low-tech/high-reward means of self-communication and healing. Learn the joy of journaling and become inspired to write by yourself, for yourself, as a gift to yourself! Youâll also have an opportunity to write your first journal entry during the workshop. Note: Participants should come to the workshop with a blank journal and pen or pencil, if possible. About Jason: Jason M. Rubin has been a professional writer since 1985, when he graduated from UMass-Amherst with a degree in Journalism. He has published two books--one, a collection of two historical romance novellas, the other a set of classic fairy tales told from the point of view of the villains--and is currently shopping another book-length manuscript and working on a collection of short stories. Jason also leads journaling workshops and contributes music criticism to The Arts Fuse, a regional online arts magazine. The Massachusetts Library Collaborative's 50+ Job Seekers Group meets via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, from 9:30am to 11:30am. Informal networking takes place from 9am to 9:30am and 11:30am to noon. If you are unemployed and actively looking, underemployed, seeking a new career direction, re-entering the job market after a long employment gap, or recently retired and looking for your "Encore Career," this networking group program is perfect for you! Remember, 85% of jobs are found through networking! Join us in a professional forum for networking with peers in a safe and comfortable environment conducive to developing new relationships and developing skills and strategies to help in your career transition. Each meeting features a new topic. Meetings include a presentation and interactive workshop on topics relevant to career transition, guest speakers, access to hiring managers, small group breakout rooms to network, and 1-on-1 coaching guidance. Participating on a regular basis will give job seekers the many tools and strategies needed for a successful job search. Each biweekly meeting is facilitated by Deborah Hope, MBA, PCIC, an experienced executive career coach. Deborah is a former Fortune 500 executive, investment banker and entrepreneur. She transitioned to executive coaching over 12 years ago. Deborah has coached with Harvard Business School Executive Education programs and the Massachusetts Conference for Women. She has been trained or certified in a variety of coaching models and assessment tools. Deborah has facilitated 50+ job seekers networking groups since 2016. For more information about the Makerspace, check out the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace webpage.  Trained Maker machine appointments open two weeks in advance. Training occurs during your first appointment. The length of the appointment is 2 hours, please plan accordingly. The Shrewsbury Public Library does not provide supplies for your project, you must bring your own. If you are making an appointment for the Embroidery Machine, you may pay for embroidery thread and tear-away stabilizer at the library. To make an appointment visit this page. A memory cafĂŠ is a welcoming place for people living with cognitive changes their care partners, family and friends. Itâs an opportunity to have an enjoyable afternoon listening to music, socializing with others who understand and to explore new things.  Participants will create a Zen Mini-Garden at the June 20th Good Day CafĂŠ. Make & Take Zen mini-garden. All the supplies are provided to get you started with a simple engaging activity to help promote overall well-being, relaxation and tranquility. The Good Day CafĂŠ meets the first and third Friday of each month in the Shrewsbury Public Library from 2 â 3:30 PM.  Performances will start at 2 PM. Social time 1:30 - 2 PM. All Makers tools are designated into zones, including general craft, sewing, and XY cutter (silhouette). A full list of All Makers tools can be accessed in this document. The SPL Learning Lab Makerspace provides access to tools and machines. Users must bring their own materials. Per the Makerspace Policy, some materials are excluded from the Makerspace. See the Policy for details. To use the SPL Learning Lab Makerspace during All Makers times, users who have completed the Makerspace Orientation must sign-in at the reference desk on the 2nd floor of the library. My name is Maura De la Cruz and Iâm a makeup artist and enthusiast based in central Massachusetts. My love for all things beautiful led me to art school where I studied fine arts. Although professionally, Iâve mainly worked in the corporate world, Iâve also been privileged to hone my skills as a makeup artist at weddings and photo shoots in NYC, Philadelphia and Massachusetts. My approach to beauty centers the wearer: I want each individual to have the tools they need to achieve whatever it is they want, all the way from learning a full-glam routine for nights out to finding that one perfect lip balm.
