Join Boston-based Blues Singer/Guitarist Barrett Anderson for a vibrant evening of story and song, telling the story of early Blues music, a distinctly American form that has shaped all music and culture that followed. Told through narrative, live performance on guitar and vocals, and an accompanying digital slideshow, Barrett focuses on the story of early blues heroes Bessie Smith, Charlie Patton, Son House, Skip James, Robert Johnson, and Muddy Waters, and crafts a narrative that celebrates the lives and art of these music pioneers, while telling a story of freedom and empowerment through artistic expression that rocked the world. Blues Stories: Culture & History told through Song & Narrative is an engaging, informative, foot-tapping good time, and there will be time following the presentation for a Q&A with Barrett.This performance is made possible by a grant from the Springfield Library Foundation’s Rose M. Smith Music Fund.About Barrett AndersonBlues Stories: Culture & History told through Song & Narrative is a program created by Massachusetts based Blues Singer/Guitarist, Barrett Anderson. Registrants will receive a link to access the Zoom Webinar via email.**We are super excited to be partnering with  bookstore owners of Read My Lips Boston for this special series! Hear about the best ROMANCE book recommendations with BIPOC/LGBTQ+/Neurodivergent/Disabled etc. characters or by representative authors. Join book store owners (and twin sisters!), Lily and Hannah Barrett, quarterly for 30 minutes of pure romance book recommendations - that are by diverse authors or have inclusive storylines! We're sure you'll find something to like from Lily and Hannah's many enthusiastic reviews.Register directly on Zoom HERE. You can sign up for one session or for all!Run by twin sisters Lily and Hannah Barrett, Read My Lips Boston is a pop-up diverse romance bookshop based in the Boston area. Read My Lips partners with breweries and cafes to host mobile shops with love stories starring those identifying as BIPOC, disabled, queer, big-bodied, and members of other groups historically underrepresented in the romance genre.To Lily and Hannah, elevating their community is paramount; The shop gives 10% of its proceeds to area nonprofits. Read My Lips' mission addresses a gap the sisters felt growing up. Born deaf, they received cochlear implants as toddlers. Their parents read to them, teaching them speech and fostering a love of reading. Growing up, Lily and Hannah loved romance novels but struggled to find characters they could relate to. They started Read My Lips because they believe everyone deserves to be seen as the hero — not typecast as a villain or sidekick based on white, cis, hetero, straight-bodied and abled standards.We'll send out a list of all recommendations for those who register.
