Shany Porras is a visual music artist whose abstract paintings translate theemotion and structure of music into vibrant, minimalist compositions. With a B.F.A.in Painting and Printmaking and a B.A. in Art History from Rice University, she draws on her classical music training and formal art education to create original works that bridge the senses. Based in the Berkshires, Porras runs a professional painting practice focused on translatinggenres like minimalist orchestral music, Shaker hymns, and contemporary film scores into visualform. Her work has been acquired by corporate and private collections and featured in solo andgroup exhibitions throughout the Northeast.

“While I was A Berrying” How pure were the Puritans? Did the Pilgrims stray from “The Path?” Dennis Picard takes a look at legal and church records from the 17th to the early 19th century to help fill in a more complete story of sex within and outside of marriage during that timeframe in New England. Come hear some stories drawn from those records and learn more about the real lives of the early European residents of our region. While working on the staff of Old Sturbridge Village in the late 20th century, Dennis Picard filled the role of first lead interpreter of religion and later, government & law. In those capacities he had the opportunity to comb through such records as justice of the peace ledgers and Congregational Church proceedings. Those dusty documents – and many others – revealed a side of our early history not often discussed in public forums. Dennis Picard has held the position of Assistant Director and Director at several sites including Fort Number Four in Charlestown New Hampshire, the Sheffield Historical Society in the Massachusetts Berkshires and has recently retired after 27 years at Storrowton Village Museum in West Springfield, MA. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Pioneer Valley History Network and a member of the editorial board of the “Country School Journal.”

Join us for a day filled with reading, music, and fun at the Stockbridge Library!Throughout the event will have children’s craft activities, free books and raffle baskets to give away, and free food. Join us at 10:30 for a short storytime with children’s librarian Ms. Rachel. Join us at 11am to sing and play with musical instruments during a Música en Español program with Natalia Bernal. Children will sing and learn about concepts such as colors, farm animals, modes of transportation and parts of the body in both English and Spanish! This event is free and open to everyone!
