Open Door Education, a test preparation organization in Acton MA,  is offering free practice SAT and ACT exams at Goodnow Library. These practice exams give students the chance to experience the format and timing of the SAT or ACT in a supportive, low-stakes environment. Students may choose to take both tests or come for a single session. Test takers will receive detailed reports of their scores following the exam and will get more comfortable with the nature of standardized testing. Following both practice tests, a third virtual session will be offered with further information, and to answer questions about the testing process. This test will be administered with standard time. If your student receives extended time accommodations, please contact Travis Minor ([email protected]) for opportunities for other testing options. Please note a follow-up, online seminar, The SAT, The ACT, and YOU: Everything You Need to Know About College Admissions Testing will be offered to all students on Wednesday, February 11 from 7-8pm. We will also come to learn how to recognize chemical henna and understand its dangers, as we come to understand why making fresh, natural henna is critical to public safety.  All patrons will receive a link to a video helping them to check for dye release and get the paste into cones when they are ready the following day. The end of the workshop includes henna designs for everyone! Instruction led by Henna artist Mandy Roberge of Wicked Good Henna. The landscape of college admissions testing is evolving rapidly, and many parents and students are understandably uncertain about what these changes, including the new digital test formats, will mean for them. From choosing between the SAT and ACT to understanding test-optional admissions policies, this class will identify and unpack the major issues relating to testing so that you can help develop a smart, effective, and informed plan for your student. Attendees will gain an understanding of the differences between the SAT and ACT, the keys to building a testing timeline, the changing role of tests in college admissions, and the essential components of impactful preparation. Reduce stress by developing a strategic plan to minimize stress while achieving excellent results! The Goodnow cookbook club is back! The revamped Goodnow Grub Club will meet on the 2nd Friday of every month at noon.  Each month a cookbook is selected and will be listed with the author's website for additional recipe ideas. Members will cook one recipe from the selected cookbook, or from another cookbook published by the same author, and will bring the food to Goodnow Library to enjoy as a club. All members will discuss what it was like cooking the recipes, what they learned, and bond over great food and company!  For the meeting on February 13, we will be using What Goes With What? by Julia Turshen.  From bestselling cookbook author Julia Turshen comes an original, inspired, and interactive approach to cooking that takes the guesswork out of everyday meals. Julia is a home cook’s best friend.
