This 6-week Mindfulness Drop-In Course will offer opportunities for beginners and experienced meditators to learn about mindfulness and deepen their practice. Each class will include instruction, extended practice, and time for discussion. Topics will include: foundational practices such as breath meditation, body scan, and walking meditation; kindness, compassion, and gratitude practices; contemplations for working with physical and emotional pain; and mindful eating exercises. The class is open to those new to mindfulness meditation and also to those with experience. Participants will gain the experience and confidence to cultivate their own personal at-home practice. The Course is free and will meet on Tuesdays, 7:00 â 8:15, starting September 30 through November 4. Attendance at all sessions is not required, but momentum will build from week to week. The program will be run on Zoom. You will have the option of just calling in on a regular phone in which case you can hear our discussion and participate in it verbally (and we can hear you) OR connecting to the meeting via the internet on your computer, laptop, or smart phone â in which case you will be able to see and hear everyone and we can all hear you if you speak (and we can see you if you choose to be visible). If you have never done this, believe me it is not that hard. Over 250 people have participated in our Zoom Mindfulness program over the last five years. If you are interested, the first step is for you to let me know by sending me an email at [email protected], confirming that you would like to be included on the invitation list. If so, I will then send you an email with instructions about how to join the ZOOM meeting. I will look forward to practicing mindfulness with you on Tuesday, September 30. ------- Greg Topakian, Ph.D., is a long time educator and actuary. Over the past forty years, he has balanced his professional life with a daily practice of yoga and mindfulness meditation. During that period Greg has participated in many long term retreats to deepen his concentration and awareness. Now in retirement, Greg teaches mindfulness to employees of local colleges, town governments, and corporations across the state. Every Spring and Fall, he offers this multi-week Introduction to Mindfulness through the Westborough Library. Storytime last for approximately 25 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of unstructured play.  This program is designed for pre-walkers or ages 0-16 months with a caregiver. Please note: This program will take place in the Great Hall of the Forbes Municipal Building-- 45 West Main Street, 2nd floor, Westborough MA, 01581 A multimedia concert of music for flute and percussion/vibraphone. Weâll enter the depths of the ocean with creatures both giant and small. Projected ocean imagery and recorded sounds combine with live music for an immersive concert experience. Weâll also take to the air with musical excerpts from Robert Maggioâs âTouching Heaven,â a piece inspired by the novella âJonathan Livingston Seagullâ in which the main character escapes the confines of his life through flight and âlearns about freedom, forgiveness and the importance of living every day with personal meaningâ (Maggio). Music by Robert Maggio, Russell Wharton, Egbert Jan Louwerse and Bonnie Cochran. Bios: Bonnie Cochran While it was the pretty sound and shiny silver that drew me to the flute as a 10-year old, whatâs kept me transfixed by the instrument and by music itself are the complexities and the connections. In music, there is always more to exploreâdeeper meaning to find, new nuances to untangle, and this exploration connects me to my own inner world and the world around me. Flutist/composer Bonnie Cochran can be heard on the soundtrack for the PBS American Experience episode, Edison, and also appears as the flutist in the HBO miniseries, Olive Kitteridge, and was featured on WCVBâs Chronicle for her community performance work with the Marlborough Cultural District Initiative. As a chamber musician, Bonnie has performed at the Ogunquit Chamber Music Festival, Assumption College, MIT and Harvard University. As a soloist, she has performed at NFA Flute Conventions in Nashville and Salt Lake City, and recently won the NFA Convention Performer Competition. Bonnieâs compositions have been performed at Gore Place, Brookline Music School, the National Flute Convention and at Carnegie Hall. Her arrangement of Silent Night can be heard on Harpist Sarah Stuartâs Winter Wonderland CD. To cultivate the next generation of music lovers, Bonnie runs a twice yearly childrenâs concert series that incorporates dynamic age-appropriate activities to engage preschool-elementary school aged listeners. Bonnie also teaches lessons and clinics to middle/high school flutists and adults, and with guitarist Bryan Wrenn, created the award-winning high school residency program InConcertâ a hands-on exploration of music composition and performance. Pieter Struyk Pieter Struyk performed with renowned R&B band Big Dave and The Ultrasonics from 1993 to 1999 and was featured at the Montreal Jazz Festival, at the Playboy Jazz Festival, and on the Canadian Much Music Channel. Pieter has performed with Jackie Evancho, Yo-Yo Ma, Cindy Blackman-Santana, Charles Neville, Grammy winner Patti Austin, Kim Wilson of The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Grammy-winning vocal group Roomful of Teeth, Meow Meow, Grammy winner Andrea Bocelli, Mannheim Steamroller, R&B legend Rufus Thomas, American Idol finalists Melinda Doolittle and Ayla Brown, and Grammy winner Anne Murray. He has recorded with Mary Witt, Big Dave and The Ultrasonics, and Wil DâArcangelo and for national campaigns for Volkswagen, The United Way, and other commercial jingles. He is a regular performer with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, and he is a current member of the Arch Street Band in residence at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston. Pieter is on the faculty at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Concord Academy. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and has also been featured in Worcester Magazine, Percussive Notes, Whoâs Who in America, and Modern Drummer. Since 1997, Pieter has been an endorser and clinician for Sabian cymbals.
