Each hour-long program includes a presentation by park rangers an opportunity to ask questions. In 2026, we are focusing on revolutionary people, places, and times.  All Parked at Home programs are free and open to all. These programs are hosted on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM (eastern) in March and April. Thank you to our partner, Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, for supporting this program.  An American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter will provide signing services for all 6 programs. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the National Archives and National Park Service are collaborating on a special project to transcribe Revolutionary War Pension Files of more than 80,000 of America's first veterans and their widows, containing more than 2 million documents. These records may contain valuable details about Revolutionary War veterans and their families, such as rank, unit, period of service, age, residence, date and place of marriage, and date and place of death of spouse. You may find copies of marriage or other family records, information pertaining to military activities or details about soldiers' lives, along with letters, diaries, or family trees within these records. Become a citizen archivist and unlock the details and stories found within these rich records!  Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park and the Newport Historical Society are co-hosting a Revolutionary War Veteran’s Pension Transcription Program on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at the Newport Historical Society (82 Touro Street, Newport, RI). Participants will learn about the value of wartime pensions and hear service stories about patriots from the Blackstone Valley. Rangers will provide training on how to access pensions and transcribe these vital records online. Are you ready to join us and contribute to the nation's 250th anniversary?  These programs are free and open to all. Please bring a laptop.

With British forces pushing through the southern colonies, it seemed as though the “American experiment” might end before it even began. When British and colonial forces met on South Carolina farm fields, the stakes were high. Join rangers from two National Park Service sites as they discuss the Battle of Cowpens, which is often referred to as the turning point of the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War.

Perkins was the first female Cabinet Secretary and the architect of the New Deal. Perkins championed many labor rights that Americans enjoy today, including workplace safety standards, Social Security, and shorter workweeks. Learn how to plan a trip to the Perkins homestead in Maine and more about Perkins’s impressive career fighting for workers across the United States.  This talk will feature a staff member from the Frances Perkins Center.

During this talk, a ranger from Effigy Mound National Monument will discuss the cultural landscape within the Monument, which includes over 200 mounds in geometric shapes, as well as bears and birds. This talk will also discuss the continued use of the landscape, including the underexplored industrial history of the site. From a sawmill run by Jefferson Davis, to the web of logging roads and quarries constructed by laborers, the lands that now comprise the park contain thousands of years of human history.

Isaac Hite, Jr., historical owner of Belle Grove, fought in the War of Independence. How did he, his family members, and neighbors come to rebel against their king? A park ranger will discuss the Shenandoah Valley's role in the American Revolution and how the promises of an unfinished revolution influenced people who lived there, both free and enslaved, during the Civil War.

Join a Park Ranger on a tour of the Mill that started the American Industrial Revolution. These 30 minute guided tours investigate the historical significance of Slater Mill, and what valuable lessons the building still teachings us. Tours begin at 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM in front of the mill. Please arrive a few minutes early. Please Note: For visitor saftey, tours of Old Slater Mill will be modified or cancelled if the heat index is at or above 87 degrees Fahrenheit. A shortened 10 minute Ranger talk will be offered at the normal tour times. Visitors will have a brief period of access to the main part of the mill.
