Learn International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan with Leslie (Les) Kannon at LACA! Tuesdays starting March 3 from 1 - 2 p.m. or 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Mar. 3, 10, 17, 24, & Apr. 14 & 21, no class on Mar. 31 or Apr. 7). This class is designed for students 12 years old (under 18 years old must have an adult present) to adults. Registration for the six-week season is $50 for LACA members and $60 for non-members. Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan is practiced as a "form," a well-defined sequence of movements that flows from one posture to the next according to underlying principles. This class presents the movements and relaxed flow of the Tai Chi form from one form to the next. Each class begins with a review of the previous form/forms, then goes on to new forms. The entire sequence of movements are taught, where the hands go, where the feet go, and the principles (softness, straightness, relaxation) that makes doing the movements worthwhile. Each class includes demonstrations, lots of practice repetitions, hands-on adjustments (instructor may physically correct positions), and verbal guidance. Les suggests wearing loose fitting clothing, comfortable shoes, bringing a water bottle, and to practice at home between classes. Get ready to make beautiful music this Winter and Spring! The Ludington Youth Chorus is excited to announce the start of its second semester-long choral program, led by the passionate and experienced Elliot Plummer. Students from Ludington and all surrounding areas, including Scottville, Manistee, Hart, and Pentwater, are warmly welcome to join! A proud product of Ludington, Elliott brings a wealth of musical knowledge and a deep love for working with young people. Having grown up right here, attending O.J. DeJonge Middle School and Ludington High School, Elliott went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Music Education (Vocal/Instrumental K-12) from Grand Valley State University. His musical journey began in middle school and blossomed through high school and college, where he actively participated in a wide array of musical ensembles, from bands and orchestras to choirs and musical theater. "Music is one of the greatest gifts that humanity has been given," says Elliot, "and I can see no better way to spend my life than by sharing the gift of music with young developing musicians. I love working with young people, and I love helping them accomplish what they thought impossible for themselves. This is especially true when it comes to music!" This exciting program offers a fantastic opportunity for young singers ages 9-14 from Ludington and neighboring communities to: Develop their vocal skills in a fun and supportive environment. Learn fundamental music concepts and build a strong foundation. Explore a diverse range of musical styles. Make new friends who share a love for singing. Experience the joy of creating music together and perform in a public concert at the end of the semester. Ludington Area Schools are generosity offering after-school transportation for students from Ludington Elementary and O.J. DeJonge Middle School directly to LACA for chorus rehearsals. This allows chorus students to have a snack before rehearsal begins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. Clogging Performance Program The 10-Week Talent Show Prep w/ Jackson Kinsey Ready to step up your rhythm? Join us for this comprehensive ten-part beginning clogging workshop and immerse yourself in an exciting American folk dance tradition! Jackson Kinsey, an experienced young instructor, will guide you through foundational steps, rhythmic patterns, and essential techniques. This extended session is perfect for beginners and anyone looking for a fun, energetic activity. The exciting highlight of this session is the opportunity to perform! Participants will work toward a group performance at the Sandcastles Talent Show Fundraiser on Friday, April 24th, showcasing the skills learned throughout the workshop. This workshop is open to all individualsâno prior dance experience is required, just bring your enthusiasm! The ten sessions will take place on Tuesdays, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., beginning February 17th. The specific dates are: February 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24 (there is no class on March 31st), April 7, 14, 21 and a final rehearsal on Thursday, April 23. The performance will take place on Friday, April 24th at the Sandcastles Talent Show Fundraiser. The cost for the entire 10-week workshop is $100 for members and $115 for non-members. Clogging shoes are necessary for participation in this Beginning Clogging class. Since sizing can be tricky and shoes may take a couple of weeks to arrive, we strongly recommend ordering immediately after registration. LACA is excited to announce its upcoming workshop, âExploring Watercolor,â with artist and retired art teacher Richelle Daniels. This four-part workshop is a beginner-level introduction to watercolors and will be held on four consecutive Wednesdays starting March 4 (Mar. 4, 11, 18, & 25) from 6 - 8 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of watercolor and creative techniques in  Part 1: Experimentation and exploration of creative techniques and color theory. Create a color swatch chart and a technique sheet. Discover the unique character of watercolor and ways to use them.  Part 2: Developing your craftâŚUsing an analogous color scheme, wet on wet, bleeding and sgraffito techniques participants will create an underwater composition. Part 3. Explore and Experiment⌠Using a warm color scheme, lifting, dry-brush and glazing participants will create an autumn landscape. Part 4. Reflect and refineâŚUsing a combination of learned skills and techniques participants will create a seasonal composition.  The workshop is designed for adults and teens 15 years or older. LACA is excited to announce its upcoming workshop, âExploring Watercolor,â with artist and retired art teacher Richelle Daniels. This four-part workshop is a beginner-level introduction to watercolors and will be held on four consecutive Wednesdays starting March 4 (Mar. 4, 11, 18, & 25) from 6 - 8 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of watercolor and creative techniques in  Part 1: Experimentation and exploration of creative techniques and color theory. Create a color swatch chart and a technique sheet. Discover the unique character of watercolor and ways to use them.  Part 2: Developing your craftâŚUsing an analogous color scheme, wet on wet, bleeding and sgraffito techniques participants will create an underwater composition. Part 3. Explore and Experiment⌠Using a warm color scheme, lifting, dry-brush and glazing participants will create an autumn landscape. Part 4. Reflect and refineâŚUsing a combination of learned skills and techniques participants will create a seasonal composition.  The workshop is designed for adults and teens 15 years or older. Learn International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan with Leslie (Les) Kannon at LACA! Tuesdays starting March 3 from 1 - 2 p.m. or 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Mar. 3, 10, 17, 24, & Apr. 14 & 21, no class on Mar. 31 or Apr. 7). This class is designed for students 12 years old (under 18 years old must have an adult present) to adults. Registration for the six-week season is $50 for LACA members and $60 for non-members. Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan is practiced as a "form," a well-defined sequence of movements that flows from one posture to the next according to underlying principles. This class presents the movements and relaxed flow of the Tai Chi form from one form to the next. Each class begins with a review of the previous form/forms, then goes on to new forms. The entire sequence of movements are taught, where the hands go, where the feet go, and the principles (softness, straightness, relaxation) that makes doing the movements worthwhile. Each class includes demonstrations, lots of practice repetitions, hands-on adjustments (instructor may physically correct positions), and verbal guidance. Les suggests wearing loose fitting clothing, comfortable shoes, bringing a water bottle, and to practice at home between classes. Get ready to make beautiful music this Winter and Spring! The Ludington Youth Chorus is excited to announce the start of its second semester-long choral program, led by the passionate and experienced Elliot Plummer. Students from Ludington and all surrounding areas, including Scottville, Manistee, Hart, and Pentwater, are warmly welcome to join! A proud product of Ludington, Elliott brings a wealth of musical knowledge and a deep love for working with young people. Having grown up right here, attending O.J. DeJonge Middle School and Ludington High School, Elliott went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Music Education (Vocal/Instrumental K-12) from Grand Valley State University. His musical journey began in middle school and blossomed through high school and college, where he actively participated in a wide array of musical ensembles, from bands and orchestras to choirs and musical theater. "Music is one of the greatest gifts that humanity has been given," says Elliot, "and I can see no better way to spend my life than by sharing the gift of music with young developing musicians. I love working with young people, and I love helping them accomplish what they thought impossible for themselves. This is especially true when it comes to music!" This exciting program offers a fantastic opportunity for young singers ages 9-14 from Ludington and neighboring communities to: Develop their vocal skills in a fun and supportive environment. Learn fundamental music concepts and build a strong foundation. Explore a diverse range of musical styles. Make new friends who share a love for singing. Experience the joy of creating music together and perform in a public concert at the end of the semester. Clogging Performance Program The 10-Week Talent Show Prep w/ Jackson Kinsey Ready to step up your rhythm? Join us for this comprehensive ten-part beginning clogging workshop and immerse yourself in an exciting American folk dance tradition! Jackson Kinsey, an experienced young instructor, will guide you through foundational steps, rhythmic patterns, and essential techniques. This extended session is perfect for beginners and anyone looking for a fun, energetic activity. The exciting highlight of this session is the opportunity to perform! Participants will work toward a group performance at the Sandcastles Talent Show Fundraiser on Friday, April 24th, showcasing the skills learned throughout the workshop. This workshop is open to all individualsâno prior dance experience is required, just bring your enthusiasm! The ten sessions will take place on Tuesdays, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m., beginning February 17th. The specific dates are: February 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17, 24 (there is no class on March 31st), April 7, 14, 21 and a final rehearsal on Thursday, April 23. This weekly workshop is a refreshing, positive introduction to meditation designed to show you that a rewarding practice is possible for everyone. Instructor Sarah Domin guides participants through a diverse spectrum of methods, ensuring you discover the techniques that genuinely light up your mind and spirit. You'll leave each session feeling calmer, more centered, and energized. There is no set schedule for specific types on specific dates; every Wednesday provides an exciting, fresh exploration! You have two convenient opportunities to join us on Wednesdays: choose the rejuvenating morning session from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or the balancing evening session from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The cost per session is $15 for LACA members or $25 for non-members. About the Instructor: Sarah Domin is a seasoned Soul Alchemist and Modern Medicine Woman with over two decades of transformative experience in meditation and holistic healing. A seasoned educator and accomplished pianist, Stephanie brings her expertise from West Shore Community College and the First Methodist Church of Scottville to LACA. Offering personalized 30-minute lessons for all ages and skill levels, she creates a supportive and enriching musical journey for every student.  Lesson Details: Duration: 30 minutes per lesson Cost: $80 for four lessons (LACA members) $90 for four lessons (non-members) Scheduling: Stephanie and LACA will work with you to find a convenient time slot. Available Time Slots: Tuesdays:  2:30-3:00 PM 3:00-3:30 PM 5:30 - 6 PM Wednesdays:  3:30-4:00 PM 5:00-5:30 PM 5:30-6:00 PM Curriculum: Students Under 8: My First Piano Level A. (Levels A, B, and C available). Lesson and writing books recommended. Students 8-15: Faber Piano Adventures Lesson Books (full Faber Piano Adventures sets are available that include Lesson, Technic, and Theory books). Supplementary fun books also also available. Students 15+: Choice of "Faber Piano Adventures" or "Adult All-In-One Course." Supporting Resources: Guide notes and music clips to enhance learning. Deb Borema is leading a unique, student-led sewing program at the new LACA Sewing-Studio. To ensure everyone gets a chance to participate, please limit registration to one program per child each month. Sewing-Studio will follow the Ludington School District calendar and will not hold a program on scheduled half-days, no-school days, or unscheduled snow days. If Deb is ill and cannot teach, Youth Sewing will still hold a program, but a different project may be taught. Participation is $7.50 per day and requires a monthly commitment. March Tuesdays (Mar. 3, 10, 17 & 24) $30.00 March Wednesdays (Mar. 11, 18 & 25) $22.50 March Thursdays (Mar. 12, 19 & 26) $22.50 Ludington Area School District will provide transportation from Ludington Elementary to LACA for this program!
