Presented by the Michigan Maritime Alliance Join us for the first annual Ships Along the Shoreline, a free family-friendly event celebrating Muskegon’s rich maritime history and waterfront heritage. Hosted on the Mart Dock campus on Saturday, June 20th, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, this event is presented in collaboration with the Muskegon Maritime Alliance, a newly formed group dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the stories that shaped Muskegon’s maritime legacy. Guests can enjoy a day along the shoreline featuring local vendors, food trucks, panel discussions, maritime displays, and opportunities to learn more about the people, vessels, industries, and waterways that helped build Muskegon’s identity as a historic port city. This event is free and open to the whole family. Come explore, learn, and celebrate Muskegon’s connection to the water! Date: Saturday, June 20thTime: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PMLocation: Mart Dock Campus560 Mart StMuskegon, MI 49440 Admission: Free Plus at the Muskegon Heritage Museum of Business & Industry see the a historic steam boat! The Woodville Queen is a locally built, wood fired steam launch. The vertical boiler, single cylinder steam engine and pump were handcrafted in Norton Shores and installed in a salvaged steel hull lifeboat. Longtime MHMBI volunteer Adam Winters is the current caretaker, captain, and engineer. She can be seen steaming on the Grand River, Mona Lake, or Muskegon Lake on sunny summer afternoons. Be on the lookout for her distinctive canvas awning, smokestack, and steam whistle!

Honor the dads in your life this Father’s Day! This Father’s Day, treat dad to a special afternoon of exploration at the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, the Fire Barn Museum, and the Scolnik House of the Depression Era. Muskegon County fathers enjoy free admission, while regular admission rates apply to all other visitors. Bring the whole family and make this Father’s Day one to remember with history, fun, and a heartfelt celebration of dad! When you arrive, check in at the City Barn (carriage house) behind the Hackley and Hume Historic Site. Free parking is available on Webster Avenue and 6th Street. Free For Muskegon County Dads. Other visitors on the day will pay normal admission. Adults $15Seniors $12Kids 2-12-$5 No registration required. Tickets are available at the door. Visitors are welcomed to walk-in during open hours. You are invited to join a special Play and Learn program at the Lakeshore Museum Center on the second and fourth Thursdays. “Little Learners” is a free literacy-based program for Muskegon County infants and toddlers ages 0-4.  During this program, participants will be invited to join us for story time and free play with themed activities.  Registration is required, but there is no charge for this program.     All attendees must register, including caregivers & siblings. This program will run for 50-60 minutes, 15-20 for an organized storytime, and the rest for free play and a craft.  During this program, adults and children will have fun learning through songs, stories, sensory stations, motor skills stations, art, and more! Our themes for this year will be: March/April:  Sorting3/12, 3/26, 4/23 May/June:  Nature5/14, 5/28, 6/11, 6/25 We will have a free book for families to take home, as well as special crafts and activities to do. Hear about the past and current uses of different buildings, discover the history of former Muskegonites, and see what downtown is like today. Maintaining American Independence Tour As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the fight for our independence, we examine those who have fought since the Revolution to maintain that freedom. This tour will look at the various wars American has been through and look at local residents’ part in those wars. We will see monuments dedicated to those who participated and learn about some industries that helped support the cause. Walking Tours are 90 minutes long and cover 1 mile on flat city sidewalks with minimal elevation changes.
