The goal of the Traverse Area Historical Society is to share local history of Traverse City and the Grand Traverse region.Our final Historical Society program for the spring season will be on Sunday, May 18, starting at 2:00 PM at the McGuire Room at the Traverse Area District Library. Peg Siciliano will present on West Bay as Traverse City's Economic Engine.Come and explore Traverse City's economic history as seen through the influence of West Bay's (sometimes) sparkling waters.  Hear the story, and revel in vintage images, of Traverse City's transformation from the times of Anishinabek fishing at the mouth of the Boardman/Ottaway River, thru the heyday of manufacturing and railroads, and on to the area's current ranking as a premier tourist location. Peg Siciliano is currently a member of the TAHS Board, after having served as the TAHS Archivist from 2006 - 2016.  She has a Master's Degree in American History from the College of William and Mary. Either in person or virtually, please join us for this wonderful program. Join us and Lisa George for a class on Ageless Grace Neuroplasticity Exercises. The Ageless Grace Brain Health Program is based on consciously choosing to change the brain through physical movements similar to playful childhood activities that fired neurons and developed neural pathways from birth to mid-teens. All 21 Simple Tools for Lifelong Comfort and Ease can be practiced by almost anyone of any age or ability. The exercises are designed to be practiced seated, in order to stimulate the five primary functions of the brain (strategic planning, memory and recall, analytical thinking, creativity and imagination and kinesthetic learning) by doing unfamiliar movements, or creating new ways to do an activity that is already familiar. The movements are spontaneous and organic, with no need to learn any special choreography. Each of the brain-changing tools also focus on a primary physical skill necessary for lifelong optimal function (i.e. joint mobility, balance, spinal flexibility, upper body strength, coordination) - and all promote the “Three R’s” of Ageless Grace, the ability to respond, react and recover.
