Poetry is everywhere, just waiting for you to find it. In this class, students will create visually striking found poetry in the form of collages and centos that use the work of other writers to express their own thoughts and emotions. No poetic experience necessary! Just come ready to cut, paste, and collage your way to a work of literary art. Ages 12-18. About the Instructor:Dr. Caitlin Cowan has taught writing for almost 20 years at all levels and at various institutions, including the University of North Texas, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, where she founded the Creative Writing program. She is the author of Solitary (YesYes Books, 2027) & Happy Everything (Cornerstone Press, 2024) and is currently seeking representation for her nonfiction debut. Of her work, award-winning poet B. H. From August 6-8, 2026, you can enjoy FREE tower climbs and admission to the light station museum during White Lake Maritime Days. Come enjoy a piece of history with epic views of the White Lake, Lake Michigan, and the channel connecting them from the top of the light tower. The light station will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on these days. We welcome all children to a free kidsâ activity book when you visit to enhance their experience and encourage learning for all ages. No RSVP is required for this family-friendly weekend. Self-guided tours will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Lakeshore Keepers thanks the Lois M. The ACWL-Nuveen classroom studio will be available for you to work on creative projects. Participants are welcome to bring studio materials from home or have fun exploring the plethora of supplies on hand in the classroom! Participants can use the easels, paints, paper, brushes, yarn, wire, and more. A printing press is available to those with experience. About the Facilitators: Kathy Rogers and Chris Jones â both artists and ACWL-Nuveen volunteers â will be facilitating this open studio, with assistance from ACWL-Nuveen staff. Chris Jones was first introduced to the arts in the White Lake area through productions at the Playhouse at White Lake. He has explored the arts through a diverse range of disciplines and has a strong background in non-profit and retail. Chris enjoys taking classes through the ACWL-Nuveen, learning new creative skills, and sharing his knowledge with others. Kathy Rogers is a retired art teacher for Whitehall District Schools and has been an active member of the ACWL-Nuveen wearing many hats since 1999. As an artist herself, her paintings can be seen in the gallery. Kathy continues to be a life-long learner and teacher. ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by CatchMark Technologies, the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
