A National Park Service ranger will guide you across this calm lake surrounded by floodplain forest and scenic bluffs. Bald eagles river otters and abundant mid‑summer lily pads are commonly seen. Adaptive EquipmentAdaptive paddling equipment is available including hand adaptations and balance‑assisting outriggers. This four‑mile paddle begins at the Carl W. Kroening Nature Center and passes the future Upper Harbor Terminal Redevelopment site and a heron rookery before concluding at Boom Island Park. Herons generally leave their nests by late July. TransportationParticipants must manage their own transportation. The paddle begins at North Mississippi Regional Park and ends at Boom Island Park. Bringing two cars and a partner is recommended—leave one vehicle at Boom Island Park and drive together to the starting point. Rideshare taxi or public transit may also be used. Registration IncludesOne seat in the selected kayak a paddle and a PFD provided by Paddle Share.Tandem kayak spots must be reserved with a partner. This guided walking tour explores the cultural historical and natural significance of the only true waterfall along the 2 350‑mile Mississippi River. You’ll visit key archaeological and historic sites and enjoy expansive views of the falls from the Stone Arch Bridge.Tours begin at the bandstand in Father Hennepin Bluff Park. This guided walking tour explores the cultural historical and natural significance of the only true waterfall along the 2 350‑mile Mississippi River. You’ll visit key archaeological and historic sites and enjoy expansive views of the falls from the Stone Arch Bridge.Tours begin at the bandstand in Father Hennepin Bluff Park. Often described as one of the most important cultural landscapes in the region Bdote is central to Dakota history and identity. Depending on the ranger interpretations may explore Dakota origin stories long-standing connections to the river and the ongoing significance of this place today.Approaching Lock and Dam No. 1 you'll learn how engineering efforts reshaped the river to support navigation transforming both the landscape and the ecosystems along its banks.
