You do not need to be an expert to come knit, crochet, weave, embroider, sew, or quilt with us. All levels welcome. Bring a friend or two and come learn a new stitch or technique, share your current projects or your New Year fiber resolutions with our local Fiber Tribe. Some materials and tools available at the Library. Fiber Arts Club is Hosted by M. Emilia Barbosa, a Portuguese-American fiber artist and enthusiast. Emilia has been teaching, learning, and practicing several fiber disciplines for more than a decade. She is an active member of the Kaw Valley Fiber Guild in Kansas and a well-known fiber artist in Lawrence, KS. Emilia designs knit and crochet patterns, weaves, embroiders, and haskins and hand-dyes her own yarns. She is a creative and curious person whose travels and academic life have allowed her to be in contact with many craft and textile artists and traditions in Europe and Latin America. When she is not busy at her academic job at S&T, Emilia can be found in her home studio practicing her multiple crafts and creating new patterns, projects, and classes. Adopt a Shelf is a volunteer opportunity designed to ensure library materials are in order. With thousands of books in our collection, it is important we have items in the correct spot for patrons to find materials. As a volunteer, you can âadoptâ a specific section of the library, helping to keep it organized and tidy. We try to match volunteers with their favorite area! Volunteers commit to checking and organizing their section 1-2 times a month, with flexible scheduling set by the volunteer(s). Families, individuals and organizations are welcome to adopt a shelf. Volunteers will have their organization, family name or individual name noted by the shelf they have adopted. Sign up here: https://forms.office.com/r/Kr9XyU9hsn Requirements: Adopt a Shelf volunteers should be at least 13 years of age. Volunteers under the required age may work with another person of at least 16 years of age. (Families and organizations are welcome.) Volunteers will be trained by library staff but should have general knowledge of how to file items in alphabetical or numerical order. Volunteers should be able to commit to a 3 month adoption period and be willing to check on their shelf once per month. Be comfortable lifting books as well as reaching top and bottom shelves. Kneeling, crouching and bending are necessary. Shelf management is done during regular library hours. Responsibilities: File items on the shelf in proper order. Arrange items neatly on the shelf pulling them forward as necessary. Dust shelves as needed. Remove items out of place and provide them to a staff member or reshelf them. Record volunteer time in the log provided. *Staff assistance is available for help. Training Day: Volunteers must attend one training day. Training days will be held on the last Wednesday of the month from 5-6pm and the last Saturday of the month from 11am-12pm.

ROLLA, Mo. â The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Rolla Public Library, and Ozark Rivers Chapter of the National Audubon Society are hosting a âBeginners Birding Walkâ event for families & individuals at Ozark Rivers Audubon - Nature Center on March 30, 2026 between 4 â 5:30 PM. Enjoy a leisurely walk around the Ozark Rivers Audubon - Nature Center grounds, observing the birds that use this oasis of varied remnant prairie, riparian zone, open woodlands, savanna, pine forest, and glade. The walk is guided by Ozark Rivers Chapter of the National Audubon Society members, Missouri Master Naturalists, and MDC staff. While geared toward the beginner, birders of all skill levels are welcome. During the walk, bird identification, including old school methods and current apps, will be covered, as well as life history and related citizen-science opportunities. We'll meet at the âAudubon Trails Nature Center Pavilionâ and please dress for the weather. If you are a Rolla resident, you can checkout one of the ânew birding backpacksâ from the Rolla Public Library to be utilized for this March 30th event, so plan accordingly. The walk will be on sidewalks, mixed natural surfaces, as well as uneven terrain. Bring binoculars if you have them, because there will be a limited number of binoculars available for checkout from the Rolla Public Library. Program is limited to 40 registered participants: ages 5 and older.
