The Colombian Andes - a relatively new destination for birders, with greater safety for travelers and a network of bird reserves, offers a chance to see unique and new birds! This includes chances to see rare antipittas that previously remained elusive and unseen to ornithologists. In May 2026, our chapter will be heading to Colombia with Flyway Birding Tours with expert bird guide, Mario Cordoba. For those who have already signed up for this tour, or for those who may be interested (spaces are filling fast!), this is your chance to talk to Mario directly. He can answer your questions about the hotels and bird reserves we will be visiting, expected weather, travel information and how to spot the endemic and near endemic birds of the region! Colombia boasts being the country with the most species of birds and the colors - barbets, parrots, hummingbirds, manakins, tanagers and more - will astound!
