Raised By This Place is a five-day spiritual and ecological theater workshop open to all ages. Over two hours each day, participants will use embodied storytelling, movement, poetry, and nature connection to explore the places and relationships that have shaped their lives. Activities include improvisational and introductory theater games, writing original poems, collage, and artifact-making from found natural objects. The week culminates in a community sharing — poems performed, artwork displayed, open to all WFC guests and families. The workshop is led by Katie Garcia, a theater artist, educator, and researcher based in Brooklyn, NYC. Katie holds an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she conducted a research study on theater, children’s spirituality, and ecological identity that forms the foundation of this program. She has presented her work at Harvard Divinity School and international conferences and has facilitated this work with children and adults across multiple settings. No theater experience required. The fee is $75 per participant for the full five-day workshop (materials included). For decades, socially responsible investing (SRI) has steered clear of fossil fuels and other extractives, weapons, prisons, and other industries causing environmental and social harm or human rights violations. Tech has been a major part of SRI portfolios that also promised growth. How is the SRI field now grappling with growing evidence of environmental and social harm caused by the tech sector? Marcela Pinilla is the Director of Sustainable Investing for Zevin Asset Management, an investment management firm with an expertise in socially responsible investing since 1997. She extends this discipline into her advocacy work, collaborating with investors, NGOs, experts, and fellow advocates to address core business activities that pose deleterious impacts on society or the environment and to stimulate positive change. Previously, Marcela worked with Mercy Investments as Director of Shareholder Advocacy, CBIS as Director of Sustainable Investing, and Boston Trust Walden leading ESG research. Marcela is a born New Yorker from Panamanian and Nicaraguan parents and grew up in Mexico City. She is deeply committed to social and environmental justice, both on the streets of her Brooklyn neighborhood and in her corporate advocacy work serving clients at Zevin Asset Management. Marcela earned an MS in International Health Policy & Management and an MBA with a focus on Sustainable Development, both from Brandeis University. Marcela serves on the ESG Committee for Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management (Mass PRIM), advising the board, and on the Investment Committee of the New York Foundation.

The boldness and broad unpopularity of this new era of Trump’s “Whenever Wars” may present real opportunities for concerted organizing against U.S. militarism. How can we take advantage of this moment within the U.S. and globally? Join this conversation with Khury Petersen-Smith, the  Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow and the Co-Director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), a research organization supporting movements to resist fascism and win transformational progressive change. Khury researches U.S. empire, borders, and migration and strategizes with activists to work against the violence that the U.S. carries out and supports around the world. Khury focuses especially on U.S. militarism in the Middle East and in the Pacific, and movements that resist it. He graduated from the Clark University Graduate School of Geography in Massachusetts, after completing a dissertation on U.S. military bases in the Pacific. He is one of the co-authors and organizers of the 2023 Black Voices for Ceasefire statement, which was signed by over 6,000 Black activists, artists, and scholars. His most recent work focuses on the U.S. war on Iran, U.S.-Israel relations, etc.
