Opening March 6, 2026, the New Hampshire Art Association presents the third annual Fledgling Artists Under 30 exhibition - a juried showcase dedicated to emerging talent from across the region. Now in its third year, the exhibition continues NHAA's commitment to supporting early-career artists by providing professional exhibition experience, recognition, and mentorship opportunities. Artists selected for the show who are new to NHAA will receive a complimentary one-year membership, further connecting them to a vibrant creative community. This year's exhibition is juried by Mike Gauthier, a graphic designer, creative strategist, and member of NHAA's Board of Directors. Cash prizes will be awarded to top exhibitors: $300 for First Place, $200 for Second Place, and $100 for Third Place. In addition, one accepted craft submission has a chance to win a $300 prize and will receive a complimentary professional critique from a Juried Member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, offering invaluable feedback for artists at the start of their careers. He has extensive experience in the interrelated areas of estate planning, probate litigation and elder law (including Medicaid eligibility). Ben is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), an organization of trust and estate lawyers and law professors who have been elected by their peers in recognition of having made outstanding contributions to the practice of trust and estate law. Among other contributions, Ben drafted and successfully advocated for passage of legislation that substantially simplified the administration of uncontested New Hampshire estates with multiple beneficiaries. Ben is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School. Cathleen Toomey Cathleen Toomey is the host of the New Hampshire PBS program Seniority Authority. Cathleen is a skilled presenter, speaking to both consumers and financial professionals and has done a TEDx talk, “The Secret to Successful Aging.” In 2021, she launched the award-winning “Seniority Authority” podcast, which earned 4.5 starts on Apple. In 2024, NHPBS aired a half hour television special Seniority Authority which Cathleen anchored, that was distributed nationally through PBS affiliates. The pilot episode was a big success and is now a new local series on NHPBS with five new episodes. Cathleen Toomey was Vice President of Marketing for The RiverWoods Group from 2007-2024, managing the brand presence and sales of the organization during a period of explosive growth, moving from two communities to five, including Exeter, Durham and Manchester, breaking a number of sales records. Cathleen not only understands community living, she also understands the “stay at home” option, as she has managed at home care for her 90+ year old parents for the past six years. It’s hard to imagine a band just coming into their own after 20 years of success, but that’s exactly what makes a true anomaly. Gaelic Storm, a multi-national, Celtic juggernaut grows stronger with each live performance, and after two decades and over 2000 shows, they are a true force to be reckoned with.  The band attributes their continued success to their fanatic audience, and it’s a well-diversified crowd for sure – attracting fans of every genre with their rich storytelling, energetic instrumentals, devotion to Celtic traditions and passion for their stagecraft. They are as loyal to their fans as the fans are to them, as frontman Patrick Murphy states, “The fans are the ones that have given us this life. We’re here for them.”  Gaelic Storm takes a true blue-collar, hard-nose approach to touring, consistently traveling the US and internationally forging a unique path in the Celtic music world. “You have to see us live. We are the true working-man’s’ band,” says longtime member Ryan Lacey. “We still, and most likely always will, tour most of the year, and that’s how we constantly hone our craft.”  This dedication to their live show dates all the way back to the mid-1990s, when Gaelic Storm kicked off its’ career as a pub band in Santa Monica, California. One which performance led to their discovery that ultimately found the band appearing in the blockbuster film, Titanic (where they performed “Irish Party in Third Class”). This laid the groundwork for a career that would eventually find them topping the Billboard World Chart six times, making appearances at mainstream music festivals, and regularly headlining the largest Irish Festivals across the country, all while gaining a reputation as a genre-bending Irish rock band whose songs mix Celtic traditions with something uniquely creative.  Recent years have seen the addition of Natalya Kay on fiddle and Parker Hastings on guitar, who both bring their own energy, musicianship and spirit to Gaelic Storm.

The NH Art Association presents Fledgling Artists Under 30 and The Annual Fundraiser Auction, opening March 6. The next generation of New England artists takes center stage this March. Opening March 6, 2026, the New Hampshire Art Association presents the third annual Fledgling Artists Under 30 exhibition - a juried showcase dedicated to emerging talent from across the region. Now in its third year, the exhibition continues NHAA's commitment to supporting early-career artists by providing professional exhibition experience, recognition, and mentorship opportunities. Artists selected for the show who are new to NHAA will receive a complimentary one-year membership, further connecting them to a vibrant creative community. This year's exhibition is juried by Mike Gauthier, a graphic designer, creative strategist, and member of NHAA's Board of Directors. Cash prizes will be awarded to top exhibitors: $300 for First Place, $200 for Second Place, and $100 for Third Place. In addition, one accepted craft submission has a chance to win a $300 prize and will receive a complimentary professional critique from a Juried Member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, offering invaluable feedback for artists at the start of their careers. NHAA's Annual Fundraiser Auction will take place in conjunction with Fledgling: Artists Under 30. This year's silent auction will directly support future Fledgling programming, ensuring continued opportunities for young artists across New England. Participation in the fundraiser is a meaningful way to give back while helping ensure that the next generation of artists receives the. The auction opens on March 6 at 5 p.m., coinciding with the opening reception of Fledgling: Artists Under 30, and will conclude on March 20 at 7:30 p.m.. Guests are invited to move freely through the gallery space, viewing and bidding on exceptional works of art generously donated by NHAA member artists. More than a fundraiser, the Annual Auction is a cultural celebration of creativity and community-honoring the artists who shape New Hampshire's creative industry while inviting collectors and supporters to invest in its future. Bidding will take place online throughout the exhibition period. Supporters are encouraged to attend the opening reception on March 6 to preview available works and place their initial bids. Fledgling: Artists Under 30 and The Annual Fundraiser Auction will be on view at Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery, 136 State Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801, from March 4th-29th. Bidding for the auction starts during the opening reception on March 6th, 5-8 pm, and ends at 7:30 pm on March 20th. Participants arriving after 8am will be assigned a station if there is a station available; any participants unassigned to a station are welcome to stay until the end of the program for general networking.   Each station will have two minutes to share information. After the two minutes are up, one participant will move to the next station and the timer will begin again. Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered two Grammy® Awards, ten Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall’s unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable artists of our time. As The New York Times recently noted Krall possesses, “A voice at once cool and sultry, wielded with a rhythmic sophistication” Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, which is outside of Vancouver, Krall grew up in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was performing jazz locally and with the encouragement of her father, a stride pianist with a vast knowledge of such Twenties and Thirties keyboard masters as Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, and Earl Hines, she devoted herself to music. “I think Dad had every recording Fats Waller ever made,” she says, “and I tried to learn as many as I could.” Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston, she moved to Los Angeles, where she met her first jazz heavyweights, including bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. The following year she signed with GRP Records and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Ray Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone. Only Trust Your Heart also marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma, a collaboration that would continue until LiPuma’s untimely passing in 2017. Krall’s success continued with her subsequent releases All for You, and Love Scenes but her watershed moment came in 1999 with the release of When I Look in Your Eyes, her first release for the historic Verve record label. The recording spent an unprecedented 52 weeks in the #1 position on Billboard’s Jazz chart, won two Grammy Awards and went platinum in the U.S. and Canada. Krall’s next album, The Look of Love, continued her international success and became a top ten seller on Billboard’s Top 200 Album charts. Since then she has released a string of recordings that have created an impressive body of work, including her critically acclaimed Turn Up The Quiet, which won two Juno Awards including “Producer of the Year.” Love Is Here To Stay found Diana collaborating with her long-time friend and colleague Tony Bennett. It was recorded with the Grammy award winning Bill Charlap Trio and the stunning result is a subtle, sophisticated and beautifully rendered love letter to The Gershwins’ music and their status as one of the premiere songwriters of the American popular standard. It is a masterclass in vocal delivery and phrasing and the command that Bennett and Krall display of the material in both their duets and solo tracks makes it appear effortless, belying the honed skills of the vocalists. The duet tracks include “Love Is Here to Stay,” “S’Wonderful,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” and “Fascinating Rhythm,” among them. Her album, This Dream Of You, has garnered critical acclaim from fans and press alike. This album is a loving conclusion of Diana’s 25-year working relationship with Tommy LiPuma. Shortly before LiPuma’s passing, the producer and artist discussed the abundance of great music recorded at their last sessions together. LiPuma was adamant that this music should be completed and issued. Krall and engineer, Al Schmitt therefore mixed and sequenced the album for the 2020 release and as such, honored their great and much-missed friend. From this release came the worldwide premiere of “Autumn In New York,” a cinematic ode to the city, directed by Diana’s long-time collaborator and friend Mark Seliger, offering a visual compliment to Krall’s loving and hopeful performance of the song. Diana Krall’s recordings have been included in several film soundtracks and she has expanded upon her role as a performer to include songwriting, producing and arranging and has brought her talents to collaborate with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand and Tony Bennett. She tours extensively around the globe to sold out audiences, appearing at premiere jazz festivals and concert halls throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Opening April 3, 2026, this milestone exhibition brings together artists from across New England in a juried celebration honoring one of NHAA’s founding members and passionate advocate for artists, Omer T. Lassonde. Over the past four decades, the Omer T. Lassonde Exhibition has become one of NHAA’s most anticipated annual events, showcasing outstanding contemporary work across a wide range of media and styles. As the exhibition marks its 40th anniversary, it continues to reflect NHAA’s enduring mission: to cultivate creativity, community, and culture through a shared love of art — affirming that art is for everyone, locally and globally. This year’s exhibition will be juried by Michael Rose, an art gallerist, writer, and arts leader based in Providence, Rhode Island. A sought-after juror and judge, Rose has helped shape dozens of exhibitions at organizations throughout New England. With his deep commitment to supporting artists and fostering thoughtful dialogue around contemporary art, Rose brings a valuable perspective to this year’s selection process. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top exhibitors: $1,000 for First Place, $750 for Second Place, and $500 for Third Place, along with several Honorable Mentions. This year’s exhibition drew strong interest from across the region, with 156 New England artists submitting 372 works, underscoring the enthusiasm regional artists have for participating in local gallery spaces. The Spice of Life- Sally Newman Portsmouth, NH- What if the ordinary moments of daily life were seen from above; alive with motion, color, and rhythm- In her latest exhibition, oil painter Sally Newman transforms familiar scenes into animated compositions that pulse with movement and storytelling. Newman’s distinctive style, which she calls “Anirealism,” merges realism with the heightened intensity of animation. Everyday imagery becomes layered and expressive, framed by bold dark lines that amplify color and emphasize action. Many of her paintings are viewed from above the picture plane, offering a sweeping perspective that draws viewers directly into the scene rather than positioning them as distant observers. Long fascinated by the world around her, Newman focuses on the gestures and routines that define human experience. Her work captures not just what we do, but the energy and spirit within those moments. A graduate of the City College of New York with further fine arts study at Notre Dame College in Manchester, New Hampshire, Newman has exhibited widely across the United States. Her work has received national recognition, including mention in the Huffington Post, and she has earned awards from numerous arts organizations. Most recently, she received the 2025 Artists Choice Award from the Nashua Artists Association and an Honorable Mention from the New Hampshire Art Association. Newman is a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, the National Association of Women Artists, and the Copley Society of Art. Spaces and Places Reimagined- Tom Cawthon Portsmouth, NH- A shaft of light across concrete. The geometry of a stairwell. The quiet tension between shadow and structure. In Spaces and Places Reimagined, photographer Tom Cawthon reveals the subtle drama embedded within architectural spaces and everyday environments. This series dissolves the boundary between the built world and abstraction. Through precise composition, sharp lines, and richly textured surfaces, Cawthon transforms familiar structures into contemplative studies of light, form, and atmosphere. His images encourage viewers to slow down and rediscover the poetry hidden in ordinary places. A self-taught photographer, Cawthon divides his time between Florida, New England, and Belize. His early years photographing the natural landscapes of North Florida, and covering collegiate sports, laid the foundation for a career that would later include leading graphic design, commercial photography, and videography teams. After stepping away from corporate work, he returned to a more personal exploration of the world around him, focusing on the spaces we inhabit and the human presence within them. Working in both color and black and white, Cawthon is known for his attention to detail and composition. Whether capturing architectural forms, street scenes, or abstract elements of the natural world, his photographs highlight moments of structural elegance. His work has been exhibited widely in galleries and institutions throughout North and Central America. In Spaces and Places Reimagined, Cawthon offers a new way of seeing; one that uncovers abstraction, intimacy, and meaning within the spaces we often overlook. Contemporary Currents Portsmouth, NH- In September 1961, Portsmouth residents Betty and Barney Hill reported what would become one of the most widely known UFO encounters in American history. Their account, describing large-eyed extraterrestrials, celestial maps, and mysterious spacecraft, quickly entered the cultural imagination, shaping how alien encounters would be depicted in film, television, and literature for decades. Presented alongside the Portsmouth Historical Society’s exhibition exploring the Hills’ story, NHAA’s Contemporary Currents brings together approximately 40 contemporary works that engage with themes of extraterrestrial encounters, space, and the powerful role of pop culture in shaping collective narratives. At the same time, the exhibition considers the idea of the “other”, inviting artists and viewers alike to reflect on alienation, curiosity, and the ways unfamiliar experiences can challenge our perceptions and expand our understanding of identity and belonging.
