This free workshop, organized by and hosted at the Children’s Museum of NH as part of their Wonder & Wellness Speaker Series, builds on parents’/caregivers’ understanding of children’s behavior by offering concrete, connection-focused strategies to foster their child’s confidence and cooperation. Parents and caregivers will learn practical tools to strengthen communication, nurture relationships, and support lifelong skills. Gina Apgar, LICSW is a clinical social worker with 20 years’ experience working with children and families in various roles including early education, home visiting, family support, healthcare, and advocacy. Calling all New Hampshire residents! Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is pleased to host New Hampshire Day on Saturday, May 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. New Hampshire residents receive special $10 trail admission (regular rates: $30/adults, $28/seniors, $24/youth), offering an accessible opportunity to explore the natural world close to home.   New Hampshire Day is a way for the Science Center to give back to the community, helping Granite Staters connect with native wildlife, learn about local ecology, and create lasting memories with family and friends. This special day is made possible through the generous support of Dead River Company, Path Vacations, and the New Hampshire Electric Cooperative Foundation (NHEC). In addition to its sponsorship, NHEC is covering admission fees for its members. NHEC members must show a copy of their electric bill at admissions to receive free entry.   All New Hampshire Day tickets are for one-hour entry blocks and must be purchased in advance. 50 Years and Still Paddling: Great Smith River Canoe Race Returns May 16 50th running draws early registrations as race day approaches Ready, set, paddle! The 50th running of the Great Smith River Canoe and Kayak Race returns Saturday, May 16, at Albee Beach in Wolfeboro. Hosted by the Wolfeboro Lions Club, this milestone event continues a long-standing tradition and is shaping up to be one you won’t want to miss. The four-mile course features calm stretches, a ¼-mile section of Class 2 rapids, and two portages — offering both challenge and fun for experienced racers and newcomers alike. Done it before? Time for another run. Never raced? Take the challenge and jump in. Registration is open now, with over 50 paddlers already signed up. Pre-registration is $35 per paddler through May 15 at form jotform.com/240255158509053, or $40 on race day. New this year — an earlier start time. Registration will be open from 8 am to 10 am, with the race starting promptly at 10:30 am. Registration closes at 10 am sharp, so plan to arrive early. After the race, stick around for a dockside celebration with awards and a BBQ. All registered paddlers will receive a hamburger or hot dog lunch, and food will be available for purchase for spectators. All proceeds benefit Wolfeboro Lions Club Charitable Fund, supporting local programs and community needs. In this one-day workshop, students will start by making a silver ring band out of wire or sheet metal. The bezel will then be soldered to the ring, a cabochon stone will be set, and the finished ring will be polished and ready for you to wear and enjoy. Materials are not required, but students can bring in a favorite stone or any silver they may have. The instructor will supply silver wire and sheet metal, plus cabochon stones of assorted sizes for students to purchase. The estimated cost of materials ranges from $40 to $90, depending on the cost of materials you use. Tuition is $75.00 per student. Materials fee is between $40-$90 depending on the stones and amount of silver the student uses. The materials fee will be paid cash or check to the instructor on the day of class. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Wednesday, May 13th.
