Join us on this guided hike of the Settlement Loop, and learn about the history of the property and the nature you will encounter along the way! You will learn about the people who lived on the land long before the Plants built Lucknow Mansion, hear their stories, and see the cellar holes that mark where their homes once stood. This is an easy to moderate hike of about 2 miles and has an elevation climb of approximately 200′. Please wear appropriate footwear for hiking and dress for the weather. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks as desired. Please note, you will be asked to sign a waiver upon arrival. While dogs on leashes are usually permitted on the trails, for the comfort of all attendees, dogs are not allowed at this program. All ticket sales are final no refunds, transfers to other days, or exchanges.

Join our head gardener, Gretchen Large, in touring Lucknow’s garden landscapes, and pick up some gardening tips and tricks for you to use at home!  Gretchen is excited to share with you her passion for gardening, which is displayed in the beautiful and thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces surrounding the Castle. She even has her own business called The Random Gardener! The gardens are constantly changing throughout the season, and no two tours are the same. We invite you to come back multiple times – there is always something new to see! This tour includes walking through our gardens. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. Please arrive five minutes early to check in at the Carriage House. Froma there, you will be transported up to Lucknow Mansion for the tour.  All ticket sales are final no refunds, transfers to other days, or exchanges.

Explore the historical uses of local plants and learn how you can incorporate them into your life today! Join author Mj Pettengill as she discusses the Abenaki and settler communities in New Hampshire and their relationship to the resources around them. Native plants played a role in survival in New Hampshire’s challenging landscape. Herbalists were key figures in helping communities survive the rugged conditions and adapt to the changing seasons with resilience. Additionally, you’ll discover the wild herbs that still grow in New Hampshire today and learn how you can incorporate them into your own life for health and wellness. If the weather cooperates, this program will involve easy walking with frequent stops. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. You might consider bringing a hat, bug repellent, and a small cushion to sit on.

Disobey your mother and look at the sun…through a hydrogen-alpha telescope! Each Sunday, members of the NH Astronomical Society set up their telescopes in the field by Shannon Pond. Drop by and speak with the astronomers, learn about the sun, and try out their telescopes anytime between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. Solar Gazing requires clear skies. In the event that it is raining or overcast, there will be an opportunity to chat with the astronomers in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House instead. This is a free program and registration is encouraged but not required.

Castle in the Clouds is partnering with the Moultonborough Public Library to bring you Story Time and Craft Hour at Castle in the Clouds! Join us on Mondays throughout the summer to hear stories relating to a different theme each week, followed by a guided craft project. This program will be held at the picnic pavilions near Shannon Pond. In case of inclement weather, it will be moved to the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House. This is a free program and registration is encouraged, as it helps us plan craft supplies, but is not required.

Join us for a walk on the property surrounding the Castle to discover how nature and people have shaped it throughout the years!  We’ll discuss the site’s long history, from its geological activity 100 million years ago, the historic cellar holes surrounding the estate, Tom and Olive Plant’s transformations, and the current stewardship of the almost 5,000 acres surrounding the Castle. Please be aware that this tour will last approximately 90 minute and involves walking outdoors, including slight inclines and uneven ground. Please wear appropriate footwear, dress for the weather, and bring sunscreen and bug spray as desired. All ticket sales are final no refunds, transfers to other days, or exchanges.

Join the New Hampshire Astronomical Society for an exciting stargazing experience at Castle in the Clouds! Bring your family and friends for an hour-long presentation about the wonders of the night sky while the last light of the day fades away. Then, make your way to the field by Shannon Pond to get a chance to use a telescope to view constellations, planets, and more. This event is perfect for children and adults alike! Please note, the presentation takes place in the Winnipesaukee Room, on the second floor of the Carriage House.  An elevator is available. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Donations during the event contribute to the Castle Preservation Society’s and New Hampshire Astronomical Society’s ability to continue offering wonderful events like this. Registration is encouraged but not required. Knowing how many people will be attending allows us to better prepare for the evening.

Sensory-Friendly Saturday is an opportunity to tour the historic Lucknow Mansion geared toward guests with autism or other sensory processing needs. This will be a self-guided tour, so you can go at your own pace and choose your own adventure. Several accommodations will be made to make the experience more sensory-friendly: Attendance will be limited.Sunglasses, sensory headphones, and fidget toys will be available to borrow.Additional hands-on activities and sensory bins will be placed throughout the mansion.A designated cool-down space will be available.We have put together a social story, visual schedule, and sensory map to help prepare for your visit. Before 10 am, the mansion will be open to pre-registered Sensory-Friendly Saturday participants only. At 10 am, the mansion will open to the general public, but Sensory-Friendly Saturday participants are welcome to stay past 10 am if desired.
