NOTE: If weekend weather looks better on Saturday, November 1, this program will be moved to that day.  The fourth perambulation: High Street to Savary Road Towns are required to perambulate their town boundaries every 7 years. Perambulations consist of walking the boundaries of an adjacent town, describing what town boundary markers are found, making some survey measurements between the markers, and blazing and painting the lines if appropriate. Select Board members are the ones authorized to perambulate. However, Select Board members generally delegate the work to a professional surveyor. The Cook Memorial Library is hosting the fourth "Banntag", a Swiss tradition that invites community members to walk their town's boundaries. In Britain it's been called a "beating of the bounds" and has taken place for over 2000 years. Paul King, a surveyor who did the perambulation in 2009, will coordinate the perambulation. Everyone is welcome to join in. This might take years! All are encouraged to join in. Bring appropriate footwear, clothing, water, snacks, blaze orange, etc. Please email [email protected] if you plan to go.

In September, October, November 2025, the Cook Memorial Library's adult readers' club will meet on the third Monday from 1:00-2:00pm. September's reading challenge is books in translation, and our book group is invited to choose one book from a selection of recently published short cozy novels featuring cats, originally published in Japanese.  October's reading challenge is short stories, and our book group pick is The History of Sound by Ben Shattuck, which is also the book for One Book One Valley 2025. November's reading challenge is memoir, and we will read In the Country of Women by Susan Straight.  Books are available to borrow 4 weeks before the discussion. Bring a bag lunch, we'll provide beverages.

Series is fully enrolled, but we’re taking names for a waitlist. My Life in 10 Stories: a life examination (first of ten monthly sessions), Monday, September 15, 3:00-5:00 PM: Each month, Nicole Maher, a certified psychiatric nurse, will lead a session on a theme such as birth order, trauma, aging, relationships, etc. Following the discussion Louise Wrobleski will offer writing prompts and tips to encourage personal reflection and deeper understanding of the pivotal moments in our lives. Participants are asked to commit to the entire ten-session series which will meet from 3:00-5:00 on the third Monday of each month through June.
