Amy from Cook Memorial Library and Dexter from Tin Mountain Conservation Center have teamed up to offer a four-part Wild Scientist Book Club for kids ages 8-12. The first meeting is on Tuesday, February 9th at 4:00 and the book is Owling: Enter The World of Mysterious Birds of the Night  by Mark Wilson. After we talk about the book we will do science!  Stop at the library to sign up and borrow a copy of the book. We can't wait to discover with you! At the second meeting in April we will explore Reptiles and Amphibians. We will learn all about Beavers in September and in November we will discover the ways animals prepare for winter.

Microplastics & Zero Waste Program Wednesday, February 11 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Zoom. Join Green Mountain Conservation Group Staff Scientist Jill Emerson and Cindy Heath from the NH Network’s Plastic Working Group, a volunteer organization focused on reducing plastic waste and the toxic chemicals associated with plastics, for an online program to learn about plastic pollution and what we can do about it.  Learn about microplastics in the environment, potential health implications, and how communities in New Hampshire and across the country are tackling the issue of plastic pollution. This online program will share current microplastics research happening in the Ossipee Watershed region of NH as well as case studies from cities around the country that have effectively increased municipal waste diversion rates through strategic plans and policies, including the impact on disposal costs and how Conservation Commissions and other town boards and departments, schools, businesses and individuals can contribute to the effort.  This program is hosted by GMCG, Chocorua Lake Conservancy and Cook Memorial Library. Preregister at www.gmcg.org.

Series is fully enrolled, but we’re taking names for a waitlist. My Life in 10 Stories: a life examination (first of ten monthly sessions), Monday, September 15, 3:00-5:00 PM: Each month, Nicole Maher, a certified psychiatric nurse, will lead a session on a theme such as birth order, trauma, aging, relationships, etc. Following the discussion Louise Wrobleski will offer writing prompts and tips to encourage personal reflection and deeper understanding of the pivotal moments in our lives. Participants are asked to commit to the entire ten-session series which will meet from 3:00-5:00 on the third Monday of each month through June.

Art Exhibit reception and demonstration

Blair Folts, whose artwork is on exhibit at the library in February and March 2026, will host a reception from 5:30 to 6:30, followed by a printmaking demonstration from 6:30 to 7:00.
