Ruth Asawa, Japanese American sculptor, educator, and arts activist, is known for her extensive body of work including paintings, printmaking, public commissions, and especially her wire sculptures that challenge conventional notions of material and form. A firm believer in the radical potential of arts education, she also devoted herself to expanding access to art-focused educational programs by co-founding the Alvarado Arts Workshop in 1968 and the first public arts high school in San Francisco in 1982, which was renamed the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts in her honor in 2010. Come and hear about this pioneering and inspirational artist and be well prepared to enjoy MoMA's monumental Ruth Asawa retrospective opening in October of 2025.Presented by Janet Mandel

On Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 5pm, anyone can come to the library to receive help with their simple device problems from our tech-savvy teen volunteers in the coffee corner. Registration is required. Everyone registered will be helped, but it will be first come, first served within the hour block.*Anyone coming for tech help must have their passwords with them (either memorized or on paper). We are unable to provide assistance for any problems involving social security numbers, viruses, phishing attempts, complex computer issues, or anything exceeding simple tech questions.
