Facilitated by Cheryl Schmid, AFMC.Cheryl Schmid, founder of The Well Chat, is an AFMC Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner and licensed Speech Language Pathologist. New Jersey was once the pinnacle for peaches, the ultimate for orchids, the tops for turf. 19th century New Jersey plant nurseries led the nation with their innovative breeding, greenhouse, field, and marketing techniques. Meet the horticultural superstars who made New Jersey their home. Impresarios, hermits, academics, politicos and a cast of unlikely characters will make you a believer that yes, New Jersey is the "Garden State."Garden historian and writer, Lesley Parness, has worked in public gardens in America and abroad for the past four decades. As Superintendent of Horticultural Education at the Morris County Park Commission, she oversaw education, programming and interpretation at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, Willowwood Arboretum, and the Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center for fifteen years. Upon her retirement, Congressman Rodney P. Frelinghuysen presented Lesley with an American flag which had flown over the United States Capitol in honor of her achievements in Public Horticulture. She served as a Board Member of the NJ Commission on Environmental Education and the Alliance for NJ Environmental Educators, and is a founding member and past President of Garden State Gardens, a non-profit consortium of NJ Public Gardens. Lesley is the recipient of numerous awards, including The Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretumâs Annual and Arbor Day Awards, The Friends of Berry Lane Parkâs Annual Award, and The North Jersey Civil War Roundtableâs Special Achievement Award. Currently, Lesley is a member of the Herb Society of America and the Council on Botanic and Horticultural Libraries. She is a columnist for Gardener News Magazine, and her articles have been featured in many gardening publications.

Participants review the impact of the opioid epidemic as well as relevant state policies and data pertaining to naloxone and harm reduction. Participants will learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of opioid use disorder and opioid overdose as well as how to respond to suspected opioid overdoses and administer naloxone. Participants will receive a free Narcan kit. This program is administered by the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School - Division of Addiction Psychiatry.

The make-up class will be Tuesday, February 3, 5-6pmMarch 6, 13, 20, 27April 3, 10Tai Chi is an ancient practice originated from China is proven to boost both mental and physical health. Itâs a proven exercise promoting balance and preventing falls, relieving depression, Parkinson's disease, dementia and reversing disease progression in osteoarthritis. It also helps with insomnia, hypertension, and fibromyalgia. Itâs often referred as âMeditation in Motionâ. In this session, Dr. Gang Huang will lead a hands-on session to work on Tai Chi fundamentals such as joints health, standing meditation, weight shifting and balance, and Tai Chi walking. Dr. Gang Huang is one of the formal disciples of Master Yang Jun, who is the direct descendent (sixth-generation) of Yang Cheng Fu and of Yang Lu Chan, the creator of Yang Style Tai Chi. Gang has learned Yang style from Masters like Yang Jun, Wang Hanrong, etc. and also Chen style from Chen Bing, Chen Zhenglei, and Chen Yu. He is an authorized instructor of Yang Family Tai Chi Association and is currently teaching Tai Chi classes in Bridgewater. He has introduced Tai Chi to many folks since 2014.
