Join us each month on the second Tuesday for our ‘Memory Cafe’ – a free program for people with changes in their memory or thinking and the people who care for them. At each Memory Cafe, participants will view our museum exhibits and artifacts, create arts and crafts and socialize with one another. Junior History Buffs is a program at The Buffalo History Museum that engages children ages 4-11 in age-appropriate history lessons, songs, stories, crafts and games. A short program, or “Circle Time,” is instructor-guided and includes songs, a brief lesson about local history and a story. After this, self-guided activities can be enjoyed by the whole family such as a craft, interactive artifact explorations, and games related to the exhibits. This program takes place every third Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with Circle Time at 10:30 a.m. and a second session at 3:00pm-4:30pm. Enjoy light refreshments, a cash bar, and music from a live DJ in a festive, after-hours museum atmosphere. Throughout the evening, find moments inspired by the exhibition’s themes. This opening celebrates the launch of a community-centered exhibition exploring how dress and personal style carry memory, meaning, and presence across time. Exhibit Details: GLAM-erica 250 is a community-driven exhibition exploring dress and personal style as expressions of identity, belonging, and lived experience. Through four GLAM themes—Grounded, Locating, Aspiration, and Memory—it brings together objects from across the Museum’s collections and community, including garments, accessories, images, and design materials. Rooted in personal stories, the exhibition traces how what we wear carries memory, meaning, and presence across time. GLAM-erica 250 invites visitors to consider dress not as trend, but as history shaped by everyday life.

Celebrate the season with an unforgettable evening of music in The Buffalo History Museum’s State Court, featuring our extraordinary 125-year-old Steinway piano. This special concert, inspired by the theme “Celebrate Spring,” brings together timeless works for solo piano alongside evocative songs from America’s rich musical past. The program showcases works by legendary composers including Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, and Morton Feldman—each selected to highlight the depth, resonance, and historic character of the museum’s Steinway. These iconic piano works are paired with art songs by pioneering American composers from the early 20th century, including Amy Beach, Margaret Bonds, Charles Ives, and Florence Price, whose music reflects a blossoming national voice in classical music. The unique acoustic environment enhances every note, allowing the piano’s century-old voice to resonate with warmth and clarity.The evening features an exceptional lineup of performers: bass-baritone Jaman Dunn-Danger, soprano Tiffany Du Mouchelle, and pianist Eric Huebner whose artistry brings this thoughtfully curated program to life. Based on a manuscript length study of the 98th Ohio and a scheduled talk in June at the Society of Civil War Historians conference in Richmond, Virginia, the presentation examines how volunteers from the state’s Upper River Valley, an area of eastern Ohio that generally opposed slaveholding expansion, went to war to put down a rebellion that threatened what they held most dear. Thomas M. Grace is an adjunct professor of History, having taught at the Cornell University Industrial Labor Relations School (Buffalo), D’Youville University, and the State University of New York/Erie. His manuscript, Citizens and Soldiers of the Upper River Valley: Sectional Unionism and the 98th Ohio’s Civil War is before Kent State University Press for the press’s “Interpreting the Civil War” series.
