The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response in partnership with NYVOAD and the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, invite you to the kickoff meeting of the Tompkins County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (TC COAD) on Tuesday, July 15th from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Tompkins County Public Library BorgWarner Community Room. Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COADs) are county-wide or multi-county coalitions that bring together government, non-profit, faith-based, and private sector organizations to enhance disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts within our communities. COADs provide a mechanism for cooperation, communication, coordination, and collaboration amongst local organizations — the "4Cs" essential for effective disaster response and community resilience. Chartered by New York VOAD and coordinated with County Emergency Managers, COADs play a crucial role in enhancing our community's ability to respond to disasters and public health emergencies. You have been identified as a potential COAD stakeholder. We hope you will join us for an afternoon of networking and learning as we introduce the TC COAD. Why Attend? · Network: Connect with local stakeholders committed to community resilience. · Learn: Explore the VOAD movement, COAD formation process, governance structure, and how COADs enhance disaster response and foster community resilience. · Collaborate: Explore opportunities for partnerships in disaster preparedness efforts. Participants will explore the root causes of common business conflicts and learn how to navigate difficult conversations with confidence and clarity. Through real-world scenarios, role play, and guided discussion, attendees will develop strategies to foster respectful dialogue, build trust, and create solutions that support collaboration and productivity. Perfect for small business owners, team leaders, HR professionals, and anyone committed to improving work relationships and outcomes. Presented by Gladys Brangman, Founder & CEO, Business Leaders of Colors (BLOC) As the Founder and CEO of Business Leaders of Colors, Gladys brings over 40 years of administrative and public service experience to the table. She has worked for the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Cornell University, and now Business Leaders of Colors (BLOC). Her business provides coaching and resources for business owners, entrepreneurs, consultants, and social justice leaders. Her network was created to level the playing field and create a cooperative space for commerce that serves the underserved business community. After becoming MWBE certified, and receiving training from New York State, Gladys’ desire is to help as many businesses as possible through the certification process. Her goal is to support and nurture business owners of colors throughout the region. Gladys is also the most recent, and much deserving, recipient of the Tompkins Chamber Noel Desch Person of the Year award.

Join your neighbors on Ithaca's West End for hyper-local networking, conversation, and advocacy at Personal Best Brewing.  Community Conversations serve as a forum for the Tompkins Chamber and Visit Ithaca to engage leaders of businesses and organizations in different localities within Tompkins County and allow us to better understand and support the unique needs of each community. All business owners, non-profit leaders, and government officials are invited to attend. Participate in a facilitated discussion about the strengths and challenges of businesses and organizations on Ithaca's West End.  Network with other business, nonprofit, and community leaders. Explore highlights of the Tompkins Chamber & Visit Ithaca's programs of work and relevant opportunities for your community. Please note, the chosen time was based on previous feedback from member business owners and attendees. We understand that this time may not work for everyone.
