Practice and enjoy being present and aware in the fresh Autumn air with a gentle and friendly weekly walk. Your guide will provide prompts to appreciate the abundance of the season and to take notice of our natural surroundings. Participants may stop and sketch or write, or walk ahead at their own pace. You may choose to share or listen. Your observations contribute to our creative collaborative nature study journal. This is an outdoor program. Cancellation in case of extreme weather or school cancellation. Sturdy shoes. Simple writing materials provided or bring your own. Contact with any special accessibility needs.

Urban Naturalist Bruce Rosenberg will lead a tour to examine over twenty plants and trees in the Arboretum that have medicinal qualities and are used to treat physical and mental conditions. All these plants can be grown in your own backyard and are available at local nurseries. He will also briefly discuss some of the active chemical constituents of those plants which help to fight infections, inflammation and a host of other ailments. Registration required. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITYEvery Saturday from April to November join the Lasdon Green Squad to keep Lasdon, Westchester’s Public Garden looking beautiful. Volunteers will work with Lasdon staff on tasks such as invasive species removal, planting, watering, weeding, trail maintenance, mulching, trash clean up, and other tasks. The scheduled tasks will rotate weekly throughout Lasdon’s 234 acres. This event is for Volunteers 14 years or older.You must be registered to participate. Come in weather appropriate clothes (coat, rain gear, hat sunscreen, insect repellent), closed toed footwear and pants are required. Gloves and tools will be provided. Please bring your own snacks, lunch, and water bottle.

In partnership with the Westchester Book Festival, Lasdon is offering a self guided walk, read, and write session on a Literacy Trail  (1:00-3:00). Practice and enjoy being present and aware in the fresh Autumn air with a gentle and friendly walk. Follow a trail of prompts from ecological writers to appreciate the abundance of the season and to take notice of our natural surroundings, a digest of the Forest Fridays: Write and Be Well Walks. This is an outdoor program. Cancellation in case of extreme weather or school cancellation, wear sturdy shoes. Participants may stop and sketch or write in a nature journal, simple writing materials provided or bring your own. Contact [email protected] with any questions or special accessibility needs. Holidays on the Hill Annual Train Show is a spectacular holiday tradition! With an audience of 8,000 and growing across 20 days from November 29th to December 31st we are recruiting Guest Services Volunteers! Join this NEW cohort by participating in one training session on November 9, 10-11am OR November 12m 1-2pm. Learn about Lasdon Public Garden History, Mission, Vision, Garden Etiquette and Behind-the-Scenes of Holidays on the Hill, AND MORE. All Volunteers must commit to 2, 2hr sessions of work throughout the opening of the Holidays on the Hill Train Show and will receive 1 free adult ticket upon completion of a total of 4hrs of hours of work.
