Lasdon Public Gardens, The New York City Department of Environmental Protection and Westchester Soil and Water Conservation District are working together to restore the banks of the Muscoot River. Steep slopes along this tributary to the Muscoot Reservoir have declining eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) and American beech (Fagus grandifolia) trees due to forest pests, hemlock wooly adelgid, elongated hemlock scale, and beech leaf disease. Besides these outdoor plants, several common house plants sold at garden centers and nurseries have leaves and berries that are poisonous and can result in humans and their pets to also experience unpleasant physical symptoms. it is hoped that by taking this tour you will be able to identify these dangerous plants and prevent you and your family from getting ill.
