Outdoor Sun Exploration – We’ll embark on a thrilling outdoor adventure to observe how the sun moves across the sky, gaining a real-time understanding of how it impacts our daily lives. Ancient Timekeeping with Sundials – Step into history as they create their very own sundials to tell time, just like ancient civilizations did – blending science, history, and creativity in one fun activity! Creative Sun Art – Unleash creativity by crafting vibrant sun prints and dazzling sun catchers that capture the radiant beauty of sunlight. Each child will bring home their colorful creations as lasting reminders of their sun-filled journey. By the end of this workshop, participants will not only have hands-on experience with the sun’s incredible power, but also take home unique, sun-themed crafts – and a deeper appreciation for the sun’s role in nature! About Wednesday WorkshopsThis monthly series of children’s workshops engages students ages 5 – 12 to explore the great outdoors of Planting Fields, and immerses them in the ecology, history, art, and more of this site. This series will take place once a month on a Wednesday evening from 4 – 6pm, unless otherwise noted. Guardians are encouraged to stay on-site during the duration of the program and explore the beautiful grounds! Junior Ranger Summer Camp offers kids a chance to disconnect and engage directly with the outdoors, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the environment. Campers have the unique opportunity to explore destinations on the site like the Laundry Building, the 65-room Main House, incredible gardens, and an Olmsted Brothers-designed landscape. Campers will have exclusive access to the beautiful groun ds of Planting Fields, including the tranquil woodland trails, the greenhouses, and the diverse ecosystems within the park. Learning rooted in art, science, history, and wellness through nature. Junior Ranger Summer Camp places a strong emphasis on the environment, not only teaching kids how to protect and preserve nature, but to engage in hands-on conservation activities, such as exploring wildlife in the Bird Sanctuary, getting their hands dirty gardening, and practicing sustainability in a creative way. Our camp combines nature exploration, engineering challenges, nature-inspired crafts, and problem-solving into one dynamic experience. Campers get to engage with nature in a variety of ways, igniting their curiosity while developing practical, real-world skills. At the end of the camp, campers earn the Junior Ranger Summer Camp Badge, a meaningful symbol of their commitment to environmental preservation and their accomplishments during the camp. If you have any concerns, please contact us at [email protected] About Kelly Caldwell, Director of Conservation, Senior ConservatorKelly is the Director of Conservation and a Senior Conservator, based out of EverGreen’s Brooklyn conservation studio. She brings over fifteen years of experience in the fields of archaeology and conservation to EverGreene’s clients. She oversees and manages the conservation aspects of EverGreene projects involving architectural elements, masonry, public art, monuments, and artifacts – often working collaboratively with architects, engineers, construction managers and fellow conservation professionals. Besides her skills in research, assessment, surveying, scope definition, project management and consulting, she has significant hands-on experience with an extremely wide variety of conservation processes and treatments. Kelly received dual BA’s from University of North Carolina Greensboro in Archaeology and Anthropology. She continued on to University College London to receive her MA in Principles of Conservation and MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums. Upon completion of her graduate training, Kelly continued expanding her skills in conservation fieldwork and historic preservation, where she focused on masonry, sculpture, and mosaics and she completed several certifications for the use of lasers in conservation. She is an active member of several industry organizations, including the American Institute of Conservation (AIC) Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) the Canadian Association of Conservation (CAC/ACCR) and an accredited member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP/ACECP.) Kelly continues to expand her education internationally, by delivering classroom lectures and onsite training regarding cultural heritage preservation. About Gillian Randell, Consulting ConservatorGillian Randell, former Chief Fine Arts Conservator at EverGreene, has transitioned to a consulting role on EverGreene projects. Gillian specializes in the conservation of fine art including murals, painted architectural decoration, wall paintings, mosaics, and finish materials including wood, metal, and stone. As a consulting conservator, Gillian’s responsibilities include writing project specifications, proposals, condition and examination reports, and treatment reports. She is experienced in working on large-scale projects with challenging construction environments and in occupied public spaces. In addition to supervising and executing conservation treatments she has worked with architects and construction managers to devise protection plans and oversee other trades working in spaces adjacent to fine art.
