Are you in need of some food inspiration? Get the whole family involved in the kitchen with this kid-friendly cooking program! Gather together in the library with a handful of simple ingredients and get ready to create a tasty snack together with children’s librarian Ms. Lisa. Cooking with Kids meets every Monday at 4 pm. We now offer 2 sessions of the same recipe. We will prepare the same recipe 2 weeks in a row to allow more children to participate. Please only choose one session for each recipe on the calendar. If the session you are looking at is full, please check the other session for openings. Registration for both sessions will open on the same day. THIS EVENT IS FOR KIDS IN KINDERGARTEN-5TH GRADE ONLY. NO YOUNGER SIBLINGS ARE PERMITTED. This event is a drop off event. The Rye Free Reading Room cannot guarantee an allergen free atmosphere and library staff do not oversee food for potential allergens. Robert Markowitz is a children's singer, guitarist, songwriter, educator, and recording artist. Robert has developed a method of musical play with kindergarten and pre-school children incorporating music, rhythm, movement, humor, role-playing, storytelling and props which makes his performances fun for children and adults alike. Reginal Stuart Poole is the unsung cofounder of the Egypt Exploration Fund (EEF) in 1882. His co-founder Amelia Edwards garners all the attention. The two of them were quite different. Poole was raised in a distinguished family of Orientalists. His first publication on Egypt was an academic book on the chronology of Egypt in 1852 at age 20. Edwards’ first Egyptian publication was A Thousand Miles up the Nile (1877) based on her travels there a few years earlier. Poole worked for the British Museum while Edwards lacked the formal classical education of Poole.Their publishing careers intersected in 1882 when EEF was founded. He wrote The Cities of Egypt and she wrote a book review of it. Poole celebrated the discovery of the very walls on which the enslaved Hebrews worked. He even wondered if the bricks might be for sale until he realized how big they were. This interest in the Exodus coincided with the Mission of the EEF with its first archaeological commission to discover the route of the Exodus.But what about the 30-year gap between his first article in 1852 and his biblical-oriented book in 1882. This presentation will survey his writings during that period. They covered a range of topics from classical to Egyptian to Biblical consistent with his formal education. With the new developments in geology the traditional date of 4004 BC for the creation had become suspect and early dates of monuments contributed to that debate. That was a topic of interest to him. The Egyptian ethnology similarly was called into question. People wondered about pre-Adams and the presence of Ham. All in all, at the time of the origin of Egyptology as a discipline, people were debating topics that would be considered obscure today. They lingered on through the work of Petrie and beyond as part of Egyptology.Poole participated in these discussions. The late 19th century was a much more fluid time than the present when certain topics became taboo.
