Babes in arms welcome, but no toddlers please, if possible.This group is a judgement free zone. If you are running late, come anyway! If you are still in your Pajamas, come anyway! Baby crying and won’t stop fussing, come anyway! We all understand that getting out of the house during the perinatal period is difficult but come anyway! This is time for you to take care of YOU.During the group we will combine brief education about mood and anxiety disorders that can get in the way of enjoying your family forming journey, along with support group time. There will be resources provided and lots of time to give and receive support from other group members.NO REGISTRATION REQUIREDAbout the group leader:Andrea Glover, LCSW, PMHC, has a private practice in Scarsdale, and specializes in perinatal, reproductive, maternal, and menopausal mental health. From sports to science, music to movies, literature to local history, our librarians have been cooking up tricky questions all summer.Here's how it will work: Come in team of up to six. (Don't have a full team? We'll pair you up to make full tables at the start of the event.) Pick out a team name and choose carefully! We'll have several rounds of multiple choice questions with a break halfway through. The team that correctly answers the most questions wins the top prize and bragging rights! Lise Meitner was a trailblazing Austrian and later Swedish physicist whose work in the early 20th century was instrumental in the discovery of nuclear fission. Born into a Jewish family, Meitner was one of the first women to earn a doctorate in physics from the University of Vienna and the very first woman to become a full physics professor and then department head in Germany. She was one of the great experimentalists of her day, and Einstein dubbed her "Our German Madame Curie" when they were colleagues together. Due to the virulent antisemitism of Nazi Germany, she lost her positions and citizenship and fled, first to the Netherlands and then to Sweden where she worked for many more years.Join educator and engineer Edward Sierra for an engaging and informative presentation about a brilliant, pioneering woman of physics who never let the misogyny and the antisemitism of the era dim her passion for science. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the program.This is a virtual program. All registrants will receive a Zoom link approximately one hour before the beginning of the presentation.About the presenterEdward Sierra began his career in the United States Navy. Upon completion of a two-year training program, Edward reported to the Electrical Division onboard the U.S.S. Billfish SSN-676, which was a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine. He went on to work as a field operator at the Hope Creek Nuclear Power Station in New Jersey, and then as a nuclear reactor operator at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Note: This program is for people 18 and up.Come to the library for some welcoming, focused time meant to give adult day habilitation groups, people living in congregate housing, and all people 18+ who might receive special care at home an opportunity for social interaction and fun games and activities. This will be a relaxed space set aside for people to visit the library and enjoy themselves. We'll have easy to join games such as UNO, Connect Four, Jenga, and more. There'll be coloring sheets and art supplies for enjoyment and self-expression. People will be free to move around and chat with friends or simply sit peacefully with their own preferred activity.This is meant to be a welcoming and inclusive program. Do you have your own favorite game or idea for a fun activity? We would be thrilled if you reach out to the library to discuss how we can better adapt Thursdays Together to serve caregivers and self-advocates.A librarian will be present to help supervise activities but we do ask that all caregivers or aides accompanying a person or group remain in the room during the program.

The film is adapted from the play The Besieged Heart, also written by Robert Hill, following a wealthy widow and her beach bum lover.Lynn Markham (Crawford) is rich and, despite her steely exterior, lonely and vulnerable after the death of her Las Vegas gambling husband. When Lynn moves into the beach house her husband had rented to the recently (and mysteriously) deceased Eloise Crandall, she quickly falls in with the dissolute gambler Drummy Hall (Chandler). Join us for a family friendly Chinese language film. This program works to provide Chinese families with an environment where their culture is celebrated and appreciated through films. Each film will be screened in either Mandarin or Cantonese with English subtitles.August's film is the romantic drama Black Tea (2024), co-written and directed by Abderrahmane Sissako. An original story by Sissako, the film depicts Aya, a young woman from the Ivory Coast who shocks her community by rejecting her fiancé on their wedding day and moving to Guangzhou. While working at a tea export shop, she meets Cai, a Chinese man, and the two fall in love as Cai shows Aya Cantonese tea traditions. Their relationship must overcome challenges based on their history and the bias of others.This monthly event is completely free, and refreshments will be provided!This event is cosponsored by the OCA-WHV.
