Pregnancy & Postpartum Support GroupJoin us for this ongoing, face-to-face support group whose members understand what you are going through! They understand the highs and lows, the sleep deprivation, the joys, the pressures, the role shifts, the challenges and even the fears associated with this perinatal period. Babes in arms welcome, but no toddlers please, if possible.This group is a judgement free zone. If you are running late, come anyway! If you are still in your Pajamas, come anyway!  Baby crying and won’t stop fussing, come anyway! We all understand that getting out of the house during the perinatal period is difficult but come anyway! This is time for you to take care of YOU.During the group we will combine brief education about mood and anxiety disorders that can get in the way of enjoying your family forming journey, along with support group time. There will be resources provided and lots of time to give and receive support from other group members.NO REGISTRATION REQUIREDAbout the group leader:Andrea Glover, LCSW, PMHC, has a private practice in Scarsdale, and specializes in perinatal, reproductive, maternal, and menopausal mental health. She has been practicing for over 30 years and has lived experience with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Andrea is also a proud mother of a Scarsdale High School graduate and is thrilled to be giving back to the wonderful Scarsdale community.

Note: This program is for people 18 and up.Come to the library for some welcoming, focused time meant to give adult day habilitation groups, people living in congregate housing, and all people 18+ who might receive special care at home an opportunity for social interaction and fun games and activities. This will be a relaxed space set aside for people to visit the library and enjoy themselves. We'll have easy to join games such as UNO, Connect Four, Jenga, and more. There'll be coloring sheets and art supplies for enjoyment and self-expression. People will be free to move around and chat with friends or simply sit peacefully with their own preferred activity. This is meant to be a welcoming and inclusive program. Do you have your own favorite game or idea for a fun activity? We would be thrilled if you reach out to the library to discuss how we can better adapt Thursdays Together to serve caregivers and self-advocates.A librarian will be present to help supervise activities but we do ask that all caregivers or aides accompanying a person or group remain in the room during the program.

Join us in the Scott Room for an afternoon of one of the great staples of classic opera!The New York Opera Forum will be presenting a concert version of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot. Puccini actually passed away in 1924 before completing the opera; the score was finished two years with contributions from Franco Alfano. Turandot is set in imperial China and tells the story - likely based on a medieval Persian poem - of the romance of Prince Calaf who falls in love with the cold-hearted Princess Turandot. In order to win her hand in marriage, a suitor must solve three riddles, with failure to answer resulting in execution. Though Calaf passes the tests, Turandot initially pleads with her father to not require that she to marry him. Calaf, offers Turandot a riddle of her own to escape the marriage if she so wishes: to guess his name before the night is done. Merciless, Turandot endeavors to force Calaf's name from one of the prince's servants. Later as Calaf makes his passionate plea that he loves her, he ultimately tells her his name himself, placing his life in her hands. The next morning, Turandot, reciprocating, declares that she knows his true nature - love - and agrees to marry him. Please note that this program is lengthy. Our Lady of the World's Fair tells the unlikely story of how New York's most influential leaders persuaded the Vatican to allow one of the world's greatest works of art to leave Europe for the first and only time. Driven by different motives, Robert Moses and Francis Cardinal Spellman had the same vision: to display Michelangelo's masterpiece, the Pieta, in the Vatican Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Join author and art historian Ruth Nelson for a fascinating look at this immense and singular undertaking.About the presenterRuth D. Nelson received her MA in Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. For her thesis research on the Marquette Building in Chicago, she received the Corning Museum of Glass Rakow Research Grant. In 2018, Ruth was selected as a State of Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar. Ruth taught art history in the continuing education department of the College of DuPage and now continues her research and writing from White Plains, NY.

Join us for a family friendly Chinese language film. This program works to provide Chinese families with an environment where their culture is celebrated and appreciated through films. Each film will be screened in either Mandarin or Cantonese with English subtitles.April's film is The Piano in a Factory (2010), directed by Zhang Meng and starring Qin Hailu and Wang Qianyuan. In the 1990s, laid-off factory worker Chen Guilin is left by his wife, who marries a rich businessman. Desperate to win the custody of their daughter who has set the odd condition of receiving a piano, Chen tries everything to obtain a piano before deciding to build one out of steel with his friends. Join authors Yuliana Kim-Grant and Jimin Han for what is sure to be a captivating discussion of The Tide Comes Around.The breadth of the Korean diaspora is now reflected in contemporary fiction and non-fiction. Many of the narratives explored are no longer just the “immigrant story”, but rather penetrating examinations of the complexities of life, made more so as a result of the tenuous connection to Korea. The Tide Comes Around is a new novel by Yuliana Kim-Grant that explores how we are all strangers, uncertain travelers in a world that is never quite what we think or might positively become. Penelope, an American woman of Korean descent, has exiled herself to Los Angeles to escape a complicated love affair and her beloved brother’s suicide. Filling her days of exile by babysitting and “working” on her dissertation, Penelope is not just lost, but barely treading water.Yuliana Kim-Grant is the author of a previous novel, A Shred of Hope. She was born in Korea, but raised in suburban Philadelphia. She received her MFA in Creative Writing Fiction from Emerson College. She lives in NYC with her husband and adult son.Jimin Han is the author of three novels, Dreamt I Found You, A Small Revolution, and The Apology, which was a Barnes and Noble Discover Pick, named a best audiobook of the year by Booklist, and featured on multiple best books lists by the Los Angeles Times, Vanity Fair, Shondaland, Apple Books and more. Additional writing of hers can be found on NPR, as well as in Poets & Writers, Literary Hub, and other publications. She teaches at The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College and community writing centers. Her work has been supported by the New York State Council on the Arts.
