Marge Tucker – Lecture Antique Quilts9/16/26Marge Tucker is an international award-winning quilt artist with a focus on abstract improvisational design. She pieces her quilts without a definitive image of what the finished piece will look like. Marge starts with a general concept and color palette then sees where she is led. Marge made her first quilt over twenty-five years ago for friends expecting their first child. At that time, Marge didn’t know that quilting would become her passion and profession. Marge has received numerous awards for her quilts, including “Best Machine Quilting” at QuiltCon 2019 and “Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award – Modern” at the 2019 Pacific International Quilt Festival. Marge shares the tradition of quilting with her students. She teaches in person and online in her Rockland, MA, studio, and travels for in-person workshops throughout the United States.

I will show you my method of quilting with your walking foot that involves little or no marking but still results in spectacular quilting. I start with the basics, such as batting choices, thread, needles and how to secure the quilting stitches. Then, we start quilting with straight lines and move to curved quilting lines and spirals on your practice quilt sandwiches. For both the straight line and curved quilting, I will show you many designs and variations you can use to great effect. I will also have some of my quilts as examples, including “Burst” which received the award Best Machine Quilting (Frameless) at QuiltCon 2019. This class will change the way you think about your walking foot! SUPPLY LIST:IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE E-MAIL ME @ [email protected] Fabric requirements: Three to four quilt sandwiches (fabric-batting-fabric) that measure 18” x 20”/22”.The fabric should be a light solid or solid-looking. This is so you can make notes and clearly see the quilting lines.To make the quilt sandwiches you could use six to eight fat quarters to make the quilt sandwiches or two yards of fabric cut into 1/2 yard cuts then cut on the fold.Cut three to four pieces of batting the same size as the fabric (18” x 20”/22”).  A cotton, cotton/poly blend or thin polyester batting work well.Tools required: Thread – have a thread (or threads) that will show up on your fabric. If you like, use several types of thread, such as a variegated thread or a thicker thread (30 to 40 weight thread) or different colors. Cotton or polyester thread is fine.Quilting needles for your sewing machine (size 11 or 14)Quilting gloves like Machingers or GrabaroosSewing machine in good working order with its power cord, foot pedal AND manual. If you have a slide-on table for your machine that gives you extra room to the left of the needle have that attached as well.Walking foot for your sewing machine (Note: this is not a foot that comes with most sewing machines. If you are not sure if you have one or need to get one, check with a dealer that sells your brand of sewing machine. Some sewing machines have a built-in walking foot (or duel feed system) like some Pfaff or Janome models and some new Bernina models. If your machine does have this function there is no additional foot needed).Basic sewing supplies – pins, seam ripper, scissors, etc.A fine-tip black Sharpie or Pigma pen to write on the quilt sandwichA Hera marker, Clover Fine White Marking Pen or a Frixon pen to mark the quilt sandwiches6” x 12” acrylic ruler OR a 6” x 24” acrylic ruler OR a 8” x 24” acrylic ruler**Prep work before class:** Place a few safety pins in the quilt sandwiches (1 in each corner is good) or spray baste.Have your walking foot on the machine before class.  If your machine has the duel feed, as addressed above, you are set.Sew a line to see how everything is working.

Marge will also go over layouts and how to work with the circle blocks. In the 6-hour class, students will complete several blocks and know the options of how to combine blocks together. This is an incredibly versatile and innovative technique with many exciting variations to explore. Supply List Supply List for Modern Dresden Plate Blocks Fabric: • Background fabric (I used white but it can be any color) – 3 ½ yards • Fabric for the colored parts of the wedges : o 1/3 yard of three different fabrics o 1/8 yard (5 ½” inches wide x WOF) of six different fabrics o OR ¾ yard of one fabric **Precut BEFORE class**: From background fabric cut: • One 7 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 6 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 5 1/5” x width of fabric (WOF) strip From wedge fabric cut: • One 5 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 4 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip • One 3 1/2” x width of fabric (WOF) strip *This could from one fabric OR three different fabrics Other Supplies: o Sewing machine and accessories (power cord, foot pedal, extension table [if you have one] AND manual) o Rotary cutter with a new blade o Cutting mat (18”x 24’’) o A clear acrylic square ruler (12 ½” square) used to square blocks o Basic sewing kit (scissors, seam ripper, straight pins) o Best Press or Magic spray starch o Thread in a neutral cotton o Olfa 6”x 24” ruler to cut the fabric and the wedges. If you have this ruler, that is great! IF NOT, I will have the ruler for purchase in class. **It MUST be this brand and length.* Thoughts/Tips in Selecting Fabric for Modern Dresden Plate If it helps in choosing your fabrics, we will be making a variety of strip sets with a background fabric (in “Burst” this is the white fabric) and your other fabrics (this fabric will be the colored part of the wedge). Some strip sets will have a wide strip of background with a narrower strip of the wedge fabric. Other strip sets will have the reverse. This gives the varied length of the wedges in the blocks. I like to work with solid-colored cotton fabrics, but really any cotton fabric that “reads” solid or has a slight print would work as well. Large scale prints don’t always highlight this technique but narrow striped fabrics or graphic printed fabrics look quite interesting mixed with the solid fabrics. **Please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions on the supply list.**

Quilt Festival

In lieu of a World of Quilts Show this year, we will be having a Quilt Festival! This event will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Kiscoon Friday and Saturday, October 9th and 10th, 2026 (10am-4pm) and will be open to the general public for a nominal fee.......More

In lieu of a World of Quilts Show this year, we will be having a Quilt Festival! This event will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Kiscoon Friday and Saturday, October 9th and 10th, 2026 (10am-4pm) and will be open to the general public for a nominal fee. The Board is very excited about being able to offer our members such a beautiful venue to show off our beautiful quilts!  So while we are not having the World of Quilts Show this year, we are having a FESTIVAL to celebrate our creations. We will be able to display about 80 quilts in the lovely Parish Hall at the Church.  We will also have a special guild Raffle Quilt, some Comfort Quilts for sale, and ‘Easy-Peasy’ mini-quilts for sale (directions to follow in a separate email.  You’re gonna love this!).  At the Festival, there will be Viewer’s Choice Awards – First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention and member docents to talk about various quilting techniques, use of color, etc.  We are not be able to include categories, judging, special displays, library books for sale, food, or vendors. Only one quilt per member will be accepted unless we fail to reach our goal of 80 quilts.  Because of the limited space, only 4-6 larger quilts can be accepted with a maximum size of 90” x 90”.  The rest will be quilts no wider than 40”.  Online registration will be available starting July 1st   an email with registration details will be sent as we get closer to July 1st. We have a Quilt Festival Committee of 15 but we need volunteers!  There will be a volunteer signup sheet at the sign-in table at this Wednesday’s guild meeting.  Volunteers are needed to help with set-up on Thursday, October 8th, at take-down at the end of the Festival on Saturday, and with various sitting jobs during the Festival days. As a bonus (and another way to draw people into our Festival), there will be tours of the building which church parishioners will handle.  St. Mark’s was designed by a well-known architect, Bertram Goodhue, in the early 1900’s with several Tiffany windows and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Easy-Peasy Quilt Directions  It’s an 8” by 10” mini-quilt to donate to our upcoming Quilt Festival!You might have a hard time making just one!— Cut a center focus rectangle 4½” by 6½”.Sew an inner border:Cut 2 strips 1” by 6½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press.Cut 2 strips 1” by 5½” and sew onto the short sides of rectangle and press.Sew an outer border:Cut 2 strips 2” by 7½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press.Cut 2 strips 2” by 8½” and sew onto short sides of rectangle and press.Quilt and embellish as desired.Trim to 8” x 10” (***Note: if finishing with facing or enveloping, add a seam allowance as needed).Finish the edges by binding, facing, enveloping, or fancy stitching – whatever makes sense for your quilt.Sew a sleeve or other hanging treatment on the back, your choice.

Maria Weinstein –  Lecture and Trunk Show11/18/26Having loved threads, beads, and fabric since childhood— although some people outgrow that sort of thing, clearly, I did not. After studying fashion design and spending a short time in the industry, I took a detour and worked as a bookkeeper for 15 years. Later, I married, moved to the suburbs, and raised two children as a stay-at-home mom. Eventually, I found my way back to sewing and discovered art quilting. Before long that creative spark grew into a passion which led to teaching. Since then, I’ve won about 50 awards, including a Judge’s Choice, a sewing machine, and cash prizes. My work has been published twice, and in November 2025, I had a one-woman show at the prestigious Dwight Englewood School. Today, I work and teach at The Quilt Tree in Nyack, New York, one of the few remaining quilt shops in the region.

Add a collar, hood, or keep it simple. Both full and hip-length coats can have pockets. You can also select a button, zipper, or leave the coat open. A $45.00 materials fee is required, to be paid directly to Maria this covers both the pattern and the pattern ease for tracing.Patterns will be available for purchase in September and October. Please do not cut your pattern. Fabric Requirements: 1 yard for bindingQuiltThe following are various options available for creating your long coat and hip-length. If making the cropped coat let me know.
