We are an informal group of Woodstockers who want to remain independent as we age. Our goal is to exchange information and provide support to each other so that we can continue to be active members of our community. Staying in Place meets every Monday from 11am-1pm.  ......More

We are an informal group of Woodstockers who want to remain independent as we age. Our goal is to exchange information and provide support to each other so that we can continue to be active members of our community. Staying in Place meets every Monday from 11am-1pm.  We are currently trying out a second meeting time for those who can’t make Mondays (or want to come a second time). We will also meet on the library lawn on Wednesday, from 1 to 3, bring your own folding chair. If it rains our Monday room will be available. All are welcome, please join us!

Group meets to read, discuss, and critique one another’s work. This is a closed group—when there are openings for new members these are announced in our weekly newsletter.

We are offering drop-in meetings with a representative from the Office of the Aging to help older adults learn about and navigate their Medicare benefits. No appointment needed—just come during the program hours 12:30pm to 3:30pm on Tuesday November 4th, 18th and 25th. New York State’s HIICAP is a statewide network of Health Insurance Information, Counseling, and Assistance Programs, headquartered at Area Agencies on Aging or their subcontractor non-profit agencies. HIICAP is the state health insurance assistance program (SHIP), which receives federal assistance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the State of New York to educate the public about Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, and other health insurance issues. HIICAP provides free, accurate, and objective information, counseling, assistance, and advocacy on Medicare, private health insurance, and related health coverage plans. HIICAP helps people with Medicare, their representatives, or people soon to be eligible for Medicare. HIICAP also provides information on low income programs such as the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) Program, Medicare savings programs, “Extra Help” prescription assistance, and pharmacy discount programs. New York State has a number of programs for those with lower incomes that make it easier to afford health care. These programs may pay part of your monthly costs, offer discounts or provide full medical coverage.
