Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is inviting families to participate in upcoming focus group sessions as the district begins developing its 2026-2031 Strategic Plan. The family focus groups are designed to give caregivers an opportunity to share their experiences, concerns and ideas about the future of Cumberland County Schools. Family input will help inform priorities related to teaching and learning, school culture and how the district partners with families to support student success. The one-hour evening focus group sessions will be held at high schools across the district from 6-7 p.m. on the following dates: Jan. 13, 2026 – Douglas Byrd High School Jan. 15, 2026 – Seventy-First High School Jan. 21, 2026 – E.E. Smith High School Feb. 4, 2026 – VIRTUAL EVENT Feb. 5, 2026 – Cape Fear High School Families interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance at: https://bit.ly/CCS_Family_Registration Feedback gathered during the focus group sessions will help guide long-term planning efforts and ensure family perspectives are reflected as Cumberland County Schools plans for the future. Parents and caregivers of children of all ages are invited to participate in Parent Café, a welcoming and supportive space designed for open conversation, connection, and shared learning. Parent Café sessions are structured as small-group conversations that encourage peer-to-peer learning and personal reflection. Participants have the opportunity to talk, listen, and engage with others on topics that matter most to families. All sessions are free and open to the public. However, advanced registration is required due to limited seating. To reserve a seat, contact Wanda Wesley at 910-483-7370. The 2026 Parent Café schedule includes five sessions, listed below. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Auxiliary Services, Student Support Services, and Policy Committees of the Cumberland County Board of Education have rescheduled their February 3, 2026, meeting due to inclement weather conditions. These committees will now meet beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026. The meeting will be open to the public via live streaming, available at:https://www.youtube.com/user/CumberlandCoSch, and there will also be capacity-limited in-person seating available for members of the public. Documents, attachments, and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education will be available for public review on BoardDocs, which may be accessed through a link on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under Board of Education (BOE) at: www.ccs.k12.nc.us. As these are Committee Meetings of the Board, there will be no public comment period.
