During this period of the contest, you may pick up your painted pumpkin masterpiece.Pumpkin season has arrived. To celebrate, we are hosting a Pumpkin Painting Contest at the library this month for kids and teens up to 17 years old. Here’s the rundown: You buy your own pumpkin (it can be as big or small as you like), paint it, and then submit it to Adult Services staff on the upper level of the library. Pumpkins will be displayed and given special awards, and you will earn some fun prizes for participating! You can submit your pumpkin from October 17 - October 24 and must pick it up by November 1. On Saturday, November 1st from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Ashe County Public Library will join the historic Orion School and Chapel and the Museum of Ashe County History who are hosting a photo swap and benefit concert at the historic Orion Schoolhouse and Chapel. Starting at 4 p.m., guests are encouraged to bring their historic Ashe County photos to be scanned and enjoy some light refreshments at the historic Orion Schoolhouse located at 350 Orion Ln in Jefferson. While there, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of Tim Lewis and Lonesome Ridge and mingle with friends! The historic Orion chapel will also be open for tours during this time. Think about your favorite bookmark, the one that you really love. Somebody somewhere made that bookmark. Now it's your turn to make one! Patrons of all ages may design and submit their own bookmark for our Bookmark Design Contest. We will print select copies of each patron's bookmark so that you can share your creation with your people, or your animals if they also like bookmarks. So, let's create together! Submission period begins Monday, November 3, and ends Saturday, December 6. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind: Use 2D mediums (crayons, digital art, photographs, collage, and the like), not 3D. Must measure 6 inches tall and 2 inches wide. If you'd like a free template, see one of the librarians upstairs at the Reference Desk! No copyrighted images or cartoons; personally identifiable information; or explicit content.
