Join us to discuss My Friends by Fredrik Backman --- Most people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. Most people think it’s just a depiction of the sea. But Louisa, an aspiring artist herself, knows otherwise, and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures. Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant seaside town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their bruising home lives by spending long summer days on an abandoned pier, telling silly jokes, sharing secrets, and committing small acts of rebellion. These lost souls find in each other a reason to get up each morning, a reason to dream, a reason to love. Out of that summer emerges a transcendent work of art, a painting that will unexpectedly be placed into eighteen-year-old Louisa’s care. She embarks on a surprise-filled cross-country journey to learn how the painting came to be and to decide what to do with it. The closer she gets to the painting’s birthplace, the more nervous she becomes about what she’ll find. Louisa is proof that happy endings don’t always take the form we expect in this stunning testament to the transformative, timeless power of friendship and art. Copies of the book will be reserved and available at the library and electronic versions can be found on Hoopla or Libby. Registration for this event is encouraged but not required.

Wanting to help out at the library? Meet other teens, earn volunteer hours, & have a say at your library! For grades 7+. — Please note: Teen Advisory Board meetings are typically held the first Monday of the month; however, due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday, this meeting is being held later in the month to serve as the meeting for both August and September. TAB members will still be able to volunteer through August & September as usual. Our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) helps us with cleaning, putting together craft kits, planning teen programs, completing different projects around the library, assisting with programs, and SO MUCH MORE! We use our monthly meeting to discuss the upcoming calendar over snacks, but our TAB volunteers have opportunities to help out all month long to earn their volunteer hours. Registration is encouraged, but not required! Why volunteer at your library? Give back to your community!  Earn service hours for graduation and other organizations you're apart of.  Boost your resume and college applications with soft skills like communication and organization. Create new connections for networking opportunities.  Voice your opinion about what you want your library to do for teens!  Join TAB today to start volunteering!

Come walk with a librarian and a naturalist in Sweet Arrow Reserve as we discuss a featured book each month all summer!  -- Walk and Talk encourages book lovers to get out in nature!  This collaboration between the Winters-Bellbrook Library and The Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Parks District is back with a 6 book/walk series from May-October.   This month we read All That Is Mine I Carry with me. One afternoon in November 1975, ten-year-old Miranda Larkin comes home from school to find her house eerily quiet. Her mother is missing. Nothing else is out of place. There is no sign of struggle. A mother vanished. A father presumed guilty. There is no proof. There are no witnesses. For the children, there is only doubt.  Walk a gentle but uneven trail which is safe for most, but remember to bring proper shoes, a water, and bug spray. Ask for your book at the reference desk at the Winters Library. Please register as we will know whom to call if the program has to move to the Parks District Headquarters on Washington Mill Road in case of bad weather.  18+
