Library Board of Trustee meeting at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, Monday, March 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Genre Conference Room.The Library Board typically meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m., with several exceptions, as noted. You may find meeting dates and times on our library calendar. At its January meeting, the Board organizes for the ensuing year and elects a President, Vice President, and Secretary. Board of Trustees members receive no compensation or benefits for their service on the Board. Board meetings are open to the public. For December and January meeting dates, please call the library at 740-392-BOOK ext. 8236. Meetings held at the branch libraries begin at 5:30 p.m. April board meetings are held at the Fredericktown Community Library, 1 Burgett Dr. Fredericktown. June board meetings are held at the Danville Public Library, 512 S. Market St. Danville. September board meetings are held at the Gambier Community Library, 115 Meadow Ln. Gambier.

Nonfiction Book Discussion on Radium Girls by Kate Moore Radium, the Curies' newly discovered element, made gleaming headlines as the fresh face of beauty and a wonder drug for the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shone brightly during the otherwise dark years of the First World War. Meanwhile, hundreds of young women toiled amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covered their bodies from head to toe; they lit up the night like industrious fireflies. With such coveted jobs, these "shining girls" seemed lucky- until they began to fall mysteriously ill. ​But the factories that once offered golden opportunities ignored all claims of the gruesome side effects. As the fatal poison took hold, the brave shining girls became embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America's early 20th century and in a groundbreaking battle for workers' rights that echoed for decades. Their story is worth knowing. Read the book and come talk about it, Monday, March 23, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the Solarium. Books are available at the library.
