HELP THE FES PTG PUT A BOOK IN EVERY STUDENT’S HANDS! The excitement of choosing a new book at the school Book Fair is something every child should have the opportunity to experience. That’s why the FES PTG has set a goal for this year’s Book Fair: to make sure every student leaves with a book in hand.HOW CAN OUR COMMUNITY HELP?Through Scholastic’s Share the Fair program, community members, families, and local businesses can help provide books for students who may need financial assistance during our school’s Book Fair.Donations made to our school’s Share the Fair account go directly toward purchasing books for FES students who need a little extra help.Your donation could mean that a student who may otherwise have to walk past the Book Fair without making a purchase gets to experience the joy of choosing a book of their very own.HELP US REACH OUR GOAL! Fourth Graders to Honor Veterans Through Music and RemembranceThe fourth-grade students at Firelands Elementary School are preparing to welcome Veterans families and community members to the district&rsquo s annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday November 11 2026 at the Firelands High School Auxiliary Gymnasium. The program presented through music and student presentations will give fourth graders an opportunity to honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces while learning about the significance of Veterans Day.Due to the number of students and families participating the program will be presented twice at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Each performance will feature a different group of fourth-grade students. Veterans are invited to attend either performance and will receive special seating and recognition during the program. For the students preparation for the event extends well beyond learning songs. Throughout the fall they study the meaning of Veterans Day learn about military service and the sacrifices made by Veterans and their families and prepare musical selections that help tell the story of service and patriotism. The evening also provides an opportunity for students to interact with Veterans and hear firsthand stories about military service. The program has become a meaningful Firelands Elementary tradition bringing together generations of the local community.Following each performance Veterans and their families will be invited to a reception in the Firelands High School cafeteria. The receptions will provide time for guests to gather share conversation and continue celebrating and honoring those who have served.Last year's Veterans Day program brought more than 60 Veterans to the two performances along with approximately 400 family members and community guests. The strong turnout demonstrated the community's continued commitment to recognizing and supporting local Veterans.Firelands Elementary staff and students are once again looking forward to bringing the community together for an evening of music learning remembrance and gratitude. As the fourth graders prepare for their performances they are learning that Veterans Day is more than a day on the calendar&mdash it is an opportunity to pause remember and personally thank those who have answered the call to serve. The Firelands community is invited to join the fourth graders on November 11 as they honor those who have served and continue to serve our country.
