When I Picture an Apple, paintings by local artist Isabella Laurino, will be on display in the second floor lobby space at Curry Public Library May 2025-July 2025. Join the artist for a free opening reception with Q & A on Thursday, May 1st at 5:30pm-7pm. Isabella Laurino fell in love with the process of creation after growing up and painting alongside her father in their Pistol River home. Isabella returned to Gold Beach after completing her BA at Southern Oregon University and briefly living in Seattle to experience life. Using mainly acrylic and oil, she enjoys replicating the world through the eyes of her own. She uses light and color to recreate the experiences that she finds the most memorable and important. She hopes to share her ideas and to create a ripple effect that opens opportunities for communication and connection within her community.

Discover the world of D & D in our open table campaign. Join Game Master Roger on the first and third Sundays of the month from 1pm-5pm. There is no long term commitment to join the campaign: drop-in to a single session, or attend them all! Beginner and experienced players are welcome. Materials provided. Snacks provided, or bring your own to share. For ages 16 and up. Details about the Campaign:  The game is being run in Old-School Essentials, a restatement of B/X D&D. Description:Whispers of the Forsaken Coast swirl like ashes on the wind. Once, these lands were ruled by the noble Ingkwat people, but they fell into the hands of the Chaos Elves, whose dark presence cast an impenetrable shroud over the land. For years, the coast was lost, the reclusive elves guarding it fiercely, their fury swift and merciless against any who dared approach. Then, came the quake. The earth itself trembled and tore as if the gods had unleashed their wrath. In the chaos that followed, the elves vanished, leaving no trace. Was it divine judgment, some cleansing from above? Or did the elves, in their arrogance, bring about their own ruin? None can say. Their fate remains a mystery, hanging like a dark mist over the land. Now, bold and hardy folk venture once more into these haunted lands. They seek to reclaim its fertile soil left fallow, its untapped resources, and perhaps the arcane secrets hidden in the broken remains of the earth.  The Forsaken Coast is a place of echoes and ruin, where the bones of history now jut from the strange, twisted landscapes. Doubtless many treasures lie there, but what unspeakable dangers lurk just beyond the shattered horizon?

Join us as we read and talk about some of the greatest science fiction tales ever written! We’ll check out stories by writers like Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Le Guin, Ray Bradbury, and many others. Whether you’re new to sci-fi or a seasoned nerd, short stories are great introductions to various authors, themes, and sub-genres like hard sci-fi, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic, and dystopian alternate history. Plus, short stories are quick to read and don’t require the commitment of long novels. About me: My name is Kai and I’ve been a reader of science fiction all my life, starting with the Choose Your Own Adventure series in middle school. I eventually discovered writers like Isaac Asimov, George Orwell, and Philip K. Dick. Sci-fi for me has always been a playground of ideas, and my favorite stories – whether they’re about encountering aliens, colonizing other worlds, or surviving an apocalypse – show me new ways to look at human nature and our place in the universe. We’ll meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month, from 1-3pm. Anyone 13 and up is welcome. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
